I'm starting to feel like this surgery is never going to happen for me. I have done everything I need to do on my part but it seems I'm the only one fighting for myself. My insurance has yet to approve my psych evaluation and after calling them directly I found out they've never received anything from my psychologist. My PCP still has not written my letter of medical necessity because "she doesn't know how" after I gave her a sample from my bariatric surgeons office. I called my surgeon who told me himself he would call her personally to make sure it was done and if she still didn't want to do it he'd send me elsewhere. I'm on the verge of a nervous breakdown because I only have six months left before I am no longer under my parent's insurance which covers the surgery and I highly doubt I can afford this good of insurance on my own. Has anyone ever gone through any of this? And how did it turn out?

Our wonderful surgeon had a team that made sure all this was done. There were a couple glitches which a followup phone call took care of. Get proactive and talk to the right person in these offices who will get this done for you. Tell someone in your surgeons office your dilemma and see if you can find the help you need. There just is a breakdown here and you can get this train rolling! Good luck!

Of your pcp isn't cooperating how about your Obgyn?

As to psych eval - why do they need to approve it? Are you in an HMO ?

Stop wasting your time with the pcp and just use your Obgyn.

Obgyn?? I'm confused! why?? Something I'm missing?

Any physician who has been treating you can make a recommendation to another physician or insurance about your weight, co-morbidities, and health problems.

Go to the doc that your surgeon is suggesting. They will know exactly what to do.

You are making the assumption that she has a separate Obgyn. I don't. I see a nurse practitioner who does everything for me.

Thanks Linda, I'm going for the sleeve and I have no one around me who understands and I have to learn everything on my own.. I'm thinking why in hell would an OBGYN be the one to help !

You may need to get a tad aggressive, with mindfulness to keep the ball rolling.

Make a list of everything you are going to need. Nut visits, do you need a demonstrated diet attempt, the PCP recommendation your doctor seems unwilling (I don’t buy unable). Anything you can do well in ahead, do it. Get as much lined up as possible.

Contact your PCP. Include a .pdf containing a letter written for approval. Leave the edit option open in case he is truly that lazy. Tell him in the letter you are providing the example he needed, and now you need to have him clarify if he does not know how to fill this out, won’t fill it out and if he will not why, because you are going to provide feedback to the doctors that recommend him for ANYTHING. In the meantime, get another PCP in the works, make another appointment – if you get two letters yay.

Keep a notebook of every time you talk to someone, an attempt – a voicemail, email, etc. This is not necessarily for the PCP situation, but if you have detailed notes on everything, it is harder for anything to become an issue.

Good luck.

If you have an Obgyn definitely see if you can obtain a letter from them.

I was lucky enough to get a letter from both my pcp and ob.

I never heard if an OB helping with this, I thought it was pcp only? What would you get from an OB?

You're weight, My Ob takes my weight everytime I come in. That and for me my blood pressure has been high during 2 pregnancies (one in which I lost) which could be directly connected to my weight.

If you look at OPs other posts she has an OB gyn

If the Obgyn is willing to write a letter than stop wasting time and go for that.

Any doctor you've been treating with can write the letter.

An earlier poster also suggested talking to the office staff. That usually will get you further faster.

If that's still an issue get a new doctor.

I would not have waited from early June until now with the same issue. Op has another post about her pcp from that time period.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
