My husband just had the surgery and his breath is, well.., just short of UNBEARABLE! ( It was not that bad before) Does anyone know why that is?

I'd ask the doctor...bad breath can be a sign of a health problem (i.e, diabetics sometimes get bad breath when their insulin is out of whack). Too, a low carb diet will give you bad breath if you're in ketosis. But what do I know? They made me stop practicing medicine w/out a degree!!! :omg:

The same thing happened to me because I was in Ketosis. To find out just go to your local pharmacy and buy some ketone strips and follow instructions. Easy and cheap way to find out. But just to ease your mind you might make a Dr appt to be checked. This is just my opinion.

Yep, my bet is Ketosis. I had the same thing happen as well as many other bandsters. It should pass once he is eating a more normal diet again. Early on we are so focused on Protein intake that it's easy to not get enough carbs which throws us into Ketosis and Ketosis is notorious for causing bad breath! Either way, get him some sugar-free breath mints and mouth wash and the dragon breath should calm down soon!! Good luck!

Has anyone here used Bodymint? It's a chlorophyll tablet (made in Hawaii) that you can take which helps with bad breath, feet smell, body odor, etc. from the inside out....as opposed to breath mints, etc. I've used it for about a year because I have stinky feets problem (**poooooeeee!**;) :faint: ) and it has really worked. I hope I can continue to use it after being banded. It turns your poop green (which is a good conversation starter at a party), but it does seem to do the things it says. I haven't found it in any health food stores (they give me this blank look), but I just send off for mine on line.

Hello!! I work in a dental office and the best stuff on the market is call smartmouth!! It will work for all bad breath!! The only time that it will not work is if you have untreated gum disease! I have been using it for about 10 years!! I will not go with out it!

The Chlorophyll also comes in liquid form, which tastes good mixed in iced tea. It has a very subtle mint flavor, but it's not sweet at all. I think the brand name is Nature's Sunshine. I've only ever gotten it online.

Definately Ketosis my friend.. that is foul.. I had it too when I was in the rapid weight loss stage.. Diabetics usually have a fruity smell to their breath. I have had that too since I am diabetic.. (i have had normal blood sugars for 2 years now.. yay!)

I gotta try that smartmouth stuff.. sounds great!

You can get SmarthMouth at some Pharmancys but not to many. Call and see if they carry it. You can order it on line. We sell it from our dental office. I Believe our web site is www.Badbreath-infocenter.com Years ago you could only get through dental offices but they are starting to get pharmacys to carry them. If you have trouble finding it let me know!!

I LOVE this site. I was banded four days ago and have a white sweater on my tongue. I went to the health food store to get Probiotics because I thought I might need them from the antibiotics I had been given. Then, I do a search on this site for "white tongue" and I get the answer I need. PERFECT. So good to know I am not alone. Thanks especially to Jack for the cogent explanation of ketosis.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
