Recommended Posts

Hi, I am new here and I am having gastric bypass in July and we are going on a family cruise the beginning of December. I am wondering if I will be able to eat anything on this cruise?? Has anyone gone on vacation 5 months after surgery??

Any information you be very appreciated. Thank you

Yes you can be successful on vacation as long as you remember what you are taught by your nutritionist and surgeon on how to eat properly and portion wise.

When you get to the solid stage go out and practice with going to different meals at a restaurants and she how you do. If you can do that with no problem then you should have no trouble on vacation.

Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

I'm having bypass TOMORROW!!! And I have a big vacation planned for mid-August to Belize. I talked to my surgeon about it and he said I should feel fine and be able to eat fairly normally. I'm planning to pack a bunch of Protein bars and shakes just in case I have trouble finding something healthy. Of course, we'll be at the beach and I'm sure there will always be a grilled or baked version of fish on the menu.

I would think going on a cruise will work beautifully with WLS surgery. I went on my Alaskan cruise while I was "dieting" and lost 7 pounds. They have so many food choices...some can take you off track...but they also offer a ton of things you can have. Soups, salads, fruits, yogurts, lean meats, lean fare options, tons of Water and many are offering sugar free dessert options now. You may take a bite of something else but what's also great is being active on the ship and at the ports. You will do great! Have a wonderful time...enjoy

I went on a cruise 8 months after surgery and had no problems at all. I did my best, but was far from perfect. Two things that will be in your favor...1) shore tours will keep you on the go all day long. Take the longest, most active ones you can. 2) it's so easy to go to the gym when it's just a few floors away. No excuses! We also zumba'd (too embarassed to do that at home), line danced, and even did a "walk for the cure". I definitely overate, but didnt gain an ounce thanks to being as active as possible. Enjoy!

I lost ten pounds or so on a cruise this year, pre op, just by staying active. We danced in the club all night!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
