I won't make it, I am sitting in the Hope Chest Breast Center waiting on radiologist to read films. Seems like in my work-up for surgery, they found something on my mammogram. They wanted me in right away to check it out, praying nothing serious as surgery is scheduled in the morning.

OMGoodness! We'll be thinking of you and wishing you well. For me - I hope it's nothing more than what I've been told in the past when I've had them - "it's just fatty cells in the breast"...of course, I had to have two more breast deflating mammograms and an ultrasound for them to come to that conclusion but I was happy to take it!

Hi, sorry for the delay in answering, last minute scramble to get ready for this morning. Additional scans showed most likely calcifications but will repeat in 3 months just to make sure. No indication to hold off on surgery, so am off to be sleeved shortly! Will post update as soon as I am up to it. Thanks for thinking of me, sorry I missed the dinner, I look forward to another opportunity. Deb

It was so great to meet everyone last night. I had a really nice time and I thank you for all the great information. I feel much more comfortable and informed regarding my decision for surgery on August 27. I look forward to getting together again!!

Debra,

So glad to hear your news. I know we haven't met yet, but I hope you'll welcome some best wishes from a stranger. I can't imagine what the past days have been for you, but I bet you're looking forward to getting on with all that you have planned for yourself now. I look forward to meeting you. We decided we'd like to meet like we did last night on a regular basis. Take care!

Let's look ahead at next month's calendar. Would it work for anyone/everyone to meet the week of the 14th? Maybe Wednesday, July 16? Maybe we can do a more centralized twin cities location. What about Roseville or Bloomington? Or maybe New Brighton or Fridley? Any other suggestions?

Debra" glad to know that it may be calcifications and hope you can come out to meet with us next time. We had a good time over the little bit of food that we can eat :). We shared our experiences, helped mbrinmn with her questions, and some shared their pet photos....just good conversation all around.

I don't know who's scheduling our next meeting, but stay toned for more mn support into and see all of you next month!!!

Not sure if you saw my post. I feel like I don't get the message and posting part of this site. I thought we could maybe look out into July and get something scheduled. I "threw out" Wednesday, July 16, for starters. Suggested we meet more centrally to the whole twin cities area...when I look at a map, Roseville seems to be about the middle of the Twin Cities and outer lying suburbs/towns, or maybe Fridley/Columbia Heights. Lots of highway access to both areas.

Gooood afternoon everyone!

Good news about Debradebra, yeah? So good to hear. Now to hear about the surgery recover with the same positive news when she's up to sharing.

I got some good news this morning myself - appears that the best thing I could have done for the cirrhosis was to have the sleeve surgery and they expect that I might be able to have a full recovery of the precious little darling. So now this surgery has been good for me in two very important medical ways - the type 2 diabetes and the potential for liver repair.

As for our next get together...I had to pull up a map to see where some of these places were that Marybeth mentioned. To get as close as midway between, Fridley or New Brighton appear to be closest to halfway-ish for most of us. I see Chinese, Thai, American, Mexican, etc...quite a selection. Any non-starters we should be aware of? Once we can eliminate, I'll put together a short list of non-fast food places to consider and we can make a selection. How's that sound?

Anyone available on Wednesday, July 16 in the Fridley area. How about LaCasitas on Central Ave. in Fridley, just south of hwy 694?

Thank you to the last group of ladies who gave me some great recommendations on whey Protein drinks. I have started to incorporate one into my daily routine.

I think LaCasita sounds like a plan - and you can't hear me saying this but it's causing a good giggle - my brother has been asking to eat there every since we saw it open and then I had the restrictions on the surgery and it didn't happen...now I'll be eating there before him thus the giggle. Small change in plans for my work schedule - with the job change and the hiring for the investigations branch, I will now be working from home every day of the week. Either I will love it or I will be ready to pull out my hair after the first month. I say Lacasita sounds like a good option I appreciate a variety of cultural offerings so long as they all come to play inside my tum tumm. Say 6 okay? or should we give folks a bit more time to arrive so maybe 6:30? If there are ones of us who would like to car pool and it is inconvenient to go that far on their own - I'm good for driving...I just need to vacuum out the car to get rid of the cat and dog hairs.

So we all in for Mexican on the 16th?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
