So I'm currently pre-op, I've so far lost 8lbs in the past month. This week I woke with a back pain which wasn't too concerning but I was woken this morning at 4am in terrible pain. It feels like my back is somehow locking and then I get major shooting pains. I just wondered if anyone else has has the same thing? I put it down to my weight but everyone around me is advising I get it checked. If not, does any one know of any thing that could help? Probably a long shot but thought I'd try. I'm currently 19 at 311lbs.

You should call your doctor. Sounds like gallbladder issues to me. Please let us know how you're doing.

Take care.

The pain seemed to calm down and then suddenly dissapeared. May get it tested out still incase it decided to come back. I wasn't sure gallbladder could affect the back? Thank you for your response.

Hello:

Yes, Gall stones can hurt your back. That's where mine hurt. In addition, they can move around and make the pain go away temporarily. Glad to hear your are well. I hope it doesn't come back.

Hello, oh that's crazy, I'll be sure to remember that for the future. My doctor doesn't think it is anything other than the pressure of my weight, which is frustrating. Thank you, hope you're well.

I thought my gall bladder attacks were back pain from weight/posture/uncomfortable chairs for two years before i finally went to the ER one night when it got too bad and wouldn't go away for hours. My gallbladder was out less than 24 hours later!

I am having back pain and am jn pre op diet. I've lost 14 pounds.

I am feeling sciatica like pain. I experienced same level of pain in the same area of my back during pregnant as I was gaining weight

That's crazy how if can affect certain areas, I understand that after the sleeve that it's very common but wasn't sure about pre-op. My back pain disappeared shortly after and this may sound completely irrelevant but I've now been having shooting pains in my shoulder and I've seen that can happen? I don't want to ask the doctor as he may look at me as if I'm foolish haha. Sorry for delayed replies, I've only recently received the notification x

Definitely bring it up to the doctor at your next appointment. If it is your gallbladder, that's actually a good thing because they will most likely remove it at the same time as your gastric sleeve surgery; it won't hinder your pathway to surgery. When you get further in the pre-op process and have an EGD done, that will also help to diagnose the health of your gallbladder. Your initial recovery would be a bit rougher, but it would be better than undergoing a second surgery. What everyone else has said is correct; back pain is very common when a gallbladder attack happens. When it happened to me, I couldn't breathe and had to call 911; I just KNEW I was dying! Lol! Best wishes to you.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
