if iam not hungry should i still eat ?

Recommended Posts

When I'm not hungry, I don't eat (or shake). I was on the full liquids, and just approved for the pureed...I have yet to have anything pureed, and don't always manage the three shakes in a day. My tummy just doesn't want them, and I am not about to push beyond my comfort.

I always want Water though...so I stay hydrated and eat when I'm hungry. My CRNP and NUT said it was important to follow my body's cues, so that's exactly what I'm doing.

eat when you are truly hungry...that is what my doctor/nutritionist advised me to do as our bodies will let us know its time

It depends on how much you're eating or not eating. Good nutrition is essential to normal body functions and healing. I would try to get at least 3 meals a day. You need your energy!

Our surgeon said do not eat 3 meals a day, eat only when we are truly hungry. Best advice ever, even though it sounded strange! He advised to eat healthy and make good choices, which we have tried to do. We take good Vitamins, and are very happy with our progress. We no longer have sit down dinners, my husband and I (we were sleeved 2 weeks apart). He eats when hungry and I eat when hungry, and we do not like the same foods anymore (he likes smoked salmon and I prefer chicken salad, for instance).

I eat every 4 hours - 8a, 12n, 4p and 8p on work days, sometimes a bit later on weekends. I usually eat about 200 calories at a time.

If I'm not hungry at the designated time I might delay the meal for an hour or so, and I might eat less than 200 calories, but I don't skip meals entirely. I'm told that eating actually revs up one's metabolism.

Anyway, it's working for me...

Our Nut wants us to eat 6 times a day even if it is just 2 or 3 bites. she wants us to be on a schedule.

Over a long period of time it is almost comical how many different surgeons have so many opposite requirements. They are working for all of us though and that is what is important. My husband eats less than I do, but he is motivated to keep losing more weight while I am happy to be where I am.

I track everything I eat and make sure I get 60 gm of Protein a day. So I do eat even if I'm not hungry to hit my protein goal.

If I dont I just don't feel right.

I feel worse if I force myself to eat when I don't feel hungry. And sometimes it's challenging to hit my protein goal (my CRNP was okay with that at this point though...as long as I don't eat off-plan, she said listen to my body and don't force it, it will come) So I eat when I'm hungry, and drink the rest of the time.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
