Still hurts when the liquid goes down

Recommended Posts

I am 5 days post op. I've been trying to drink/zip my Isopure and Water. But I have consistent pain when I drink and don't feel as well, I walk, I move around, but The pain when the liquid goes down it stuns me to a halt. Anyone experienced this the first two weeks? Will it go away?

Hi, I absolutely did. It was horrible. I feel for you. Honestly the only thing that helped was warm tea. I put some trivia in it to sweeten it, and it was a life over. For me it had something to do with the cold liquids. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for your response. For me it's hot , cold or room temperature it just doesn't matter. I hope it goes away. It just stops me from my intake. How long did it last you?

It lasted about 3 weeks. The first two months for me were the hardest. I did not have a "textbook" recovery. This might sound crazy, but it could be what you are drinking. For me I could not add crystal light or anything like that to my Water. My stomach would start hurting. It took me awhile (about 2 months) to figured it out. I also couldn't drink the sugar free Vitamin waters. If I get tired of Water I will add a little OJ and dilute the heck out of it. You get creative on this journey, and find out what works best for you :). Everyone is so different in their recovery, so you do what is best for you.

I could not drink anything without the pain in my throat and chest and the only way I ended up getting a lot of fluids was by using a straw. Some doctors tell you not to, however I accidentally drank an entire juice about 3 weeks after surgery with a straw and realized it was the first time I wasn't in miserable pain choking down Fluid. My doctor said that they tell you not to use a straw because you may take in extra air which leads to stomach pain, but if I didn't have that problem I should go for it.

I could not take more than a few sips of Water for probably 2-3 months and it was only at about 5-6 months where I noticed I could drink a few chugs of Water without feeling like it was choking its way down my throat. It does get better though. :)

I was experiencing the same thing until the end of day four and it started to ease. I could not take in anything cold. My NP told me it was the hiatal hernia repair I also had and when the cold hits the spot it hurts. I found the more I could drink the lesser it hurt. Hoping it lets up for you soon. Keep sipping!

Thanks guys. I am a week and a day out, I'm still feeling the pain not every time nor so intense. I did have the hernia repair which may be the cause of my troubles. The thing is it's getting better thank goodness.

For sure it is the hernia repair. My Dr. told me it would hurt a bit more when you drink because of it, but mine finally lifted. Hope you continue to feel better. :)

I was told the same at my pot op follow up today. Nothing to do but wait til it gets better. He told me to write down when it happens and what my intake was at the time.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
