Increased my daily calories and weight loss has accelerated?! Nice, but why?

Recommended Posts

At six months out, I increased my daily calories from 900 to 1200 per day. I was only eating 2 meals previously, since I hadn't found anyting I could eat in the morning without feeling queasy. Now I've added Greek yogurt & fruit for Breakfast, and an ounce of nuts on my way home from work in the evening. I also have a few Triscuits with a light Lauging Cow in the evening for a snack. Oddly, my weight loss has accelerated. I had been losing about 1 pound per week, but now it's closer to 1 3/4 pound. I've only been doing this for 2 weeks. I also started increasing my Fiber intake (with Fiber Choice) but I have not changed my exercise routine or general activity level at all. I certainly feel more satiated. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Me weight loss speeds up when I increase my calories too! Sometimes I can only get in 600 (I'm only 2 months out) but the weeks that I hit 800-900 multiple times I lose up to twice as much!!!

Wow ladies, how do I do this, it seems like I need a meal plan, I am experimenting with foods...I have been since being post op 2 weeks, I am now post op week 4 and I have tried everything I love to eat, but many of those foods don't agree with me any more. Spagetti, doesnt agree with me, the sauce seems weird and it was my favorite. Amazing enought I can eat a 1/2 taco, hard or soft shell. at 4 weeks post op. I get hungry every two hours, but what ever I eat I can only eat 2 bites, and it can not be saucy like spagetti or bar b q, taste good but heart burn stuck in my throat, any advice peeps

My NUT and doctor say that it's important to maintain about 1000-1200 calories a day to ensure healthy weight loss. Now, I'm only 6 weeks out and it's hard for me to get more than 900 (that's only on days when I have 2 Protein shakes, other days I'm around 750), but that's the goal at my doctor's office.

I'm not an expert but I have been told your body needs fuel to operate properly. if you don't get enough calories your body goes into starvation mode and hangs on to the excess weight. Eating enough Protein will help your body keep muscle and lose fat. My doc and nut insist I make Protein the priority. I have to complete a 6 month monitored weight loss before surgery so I have quite a wait ahead of me but getting the protein in is helping me to not feel hungry.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
