My oldest furr babie is Zoeena our cat, she is 11. She had been in our family since she was 5 weeks old. And our youngest is Daisey Mae. She is 8 year old Boxer but we rescued her 2 years ago. She had been abandoned through tragedy before coming to live with us.

These are my two children, loves of my life, Coco and Pepper.

I adopted Coco from a shelter, and found Pepper at an adoption clinic in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico as a kitten. If I didn't take him, he would have gone back to the pound and would have been put down :-(.

Coco is a crazy calico, and I didn't know anything about their personality traits before I brought her home, haha. She is a DIVA and the center of attention at all times (in her mind :-)).

Pepper is the sweetest little angel. I developed a very strong bond with him when I rescued him, and I couldn't imagine our household without him.

I'm having my surgery June 9th and will be staying with my sister for a week. The hardest thing is going to be being away from them :-(

This is Leo, he is my daughter's Cavalier King Charles. We adopted him from a woman that was dying of Breast Cancer, and could not take him to the hospice home. post-1845-0-22808500-1400675714_thumb.jpg

This is Kammi and Louie, the little guy has been in our lives and hearts for about 6 years now, and I love him with all my heart. The bigger girl is my hubby's little lady. She has had a long life, in just 4 short years. I am also adding a picture of her the day she was picked up off the street. She was still nursing a puppy in the condition she was in, my grand puppy Winston turned out to be a wonderful, goofy big mixed breed boy, that we still visit. post-1845-0-95796300-1400675736_thumb.jpg post-1845-0-42461300-1400675846_thumb.jpg She has come a long way don't you think?

post-1845-0-90482000-1400675775_thumb.jpg This is what I come home to, MY pillow that has been dragged from my bed to the couch, so Princess Kammi can be more comfy. I have bought her the same pillow, I have tried giving her my old one and taking the new one, but she still takes mine, not hubby's or the kid's pillow, only mine.

This is the day Kammi officially became ours. It was the best day. post-1845-0-83748200-1400675768_thumb.jpg

post-1845-0-85161200-1400675746_thumb.jpg Louie sunning himself. He LOVES living in Florida, there is always grass to roll in, and since it rains often, he gets to roll in wet grass, yay for him, not so much for me.

post-1845-0-68142000-1400675785_thumb.jpg This is JubJub, he is a male sugar glider, we also have a female but she is a total snot, and doesn't care for her picture being taken.

post-1845-0-58339400-1400675843_thumb.jpg Last but not least, our red footed tortoises. We have 2, the larger one is strawberry (they have spots that look like strawberry seeds on their legs) and the little guy is Squirt. I wasn't sure about having them, they live like 30-50 years, and eat a special diet, but now I LOVE them. They are in a large reptile tank on my Breakfast bar, we never used it anyway, and they come out and watch me cook, or do dishes. They know when it is time to be fed, and will tap their shells on the tank if I'm late getting to them. They also LOVE a bath, and I soak them in a small hospital tub (like the ones they use for sponge baths etc) and they are just too cute in the Water. It's really amazing to watch them grow and everyone loves watching them eat. They take such massive bites for something so small. And honestly the cutest thing to ever happen is to see a tiny little tortoise yawn. I don't know why it's so cute, but it is.

That's my little zoo. It's crowded, and feeding time takes forever, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

He's 2 months old and was in a kill shelter in Delaware.

Alex, there is no greater love then the love of a rescue. Congrats on the new pup, may he bring your family many happy years.

@@LeighAnneF that is so awesome of you to foster. I did try that myself which is how I ended up with 5 more cats, I just didn't know how to give any of them up. I am not a very good foster Mom I want to keep them all. lol

Here's the love of my life, my protector, my best friend, my Precious!!!! My hubby and I rescued her from our local ASPCA just days before she was scheduled to be put down. She is the joy of my life and I love her. She's "My Baby Girl" and I would not trade her for anything in the world!!!

While I do have both a dog and a cat, most of my animals are a bit more cold-blooded. In addition to the dog and cat (and chinchillas), I have 10 cornsnakes, two boas, two geckos and a bearded dragon. Although in fairness, one of the geckos and the beardie belong to my daughter (but she's 10, so I help a bit with them)

Pictured are Maya (dog), Boo (cat), Cupid (hypo Honduran boa), and Toothless (pastel bearded dragon)

I guess working with a rescue and having animals in and out as fosters, temps, and just simply not being able to say no to any animal tends to build up quite a collection of fur babies, shell babies, and of course scaled babies when needed. My Kammi had to have an eye removed, and they drained the Fluid out of the eye they removed, and then injected it into her remaining eye to try to save it. She is known in our area as the miracle dog, all the local vets know her. And we take her to all the local pet adoption events, to show that even the roughest looking babies can look like a show dog with love and good vet care.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
