Fertility after bypass

Recommended Posts

I was told that I would never be able to conceive with out the help of Ivf. I did 2 runs of it and have 3 beautiful little Girls.

Now fast forward. I had surgery on May 31 2013 and I am currently down 110 pounds. On Jan 07 2014 I went to the Emergency room for Gallbladder pain, turned out I needed emergency surgery. They admitted me and I had it removed that day. I went back a week later for abdominal pain and was told that I was pregnant. I freaked out and told them that A. I just had surgery a week prior and B. I was told I couldn't have kids and had to do Ivf for all my girls. I ended up losing my pregnancy because of the surgery. I am angry and hurt. I was pregnant with my second set of twins. Please ladies listen to when people say you have better fertility after you lose weight. Sorry for the vent but I don't know who else to talk to.

omg I'm so sorry for your loss, I am 8 months post OP and haven't had problems with fertility. I have the nuva ring and so far it's worked well. Good luck I hope you have a speedy recovery.

While I am a lap band patient and I sometimes just cruise other forums to see how others are doing, I clicked on your post because I had my WLS because I lost my son at 31 weeks pregnant in Oct 2012. A huge motivation for my WLS is pregnancy in the future. My issues could have happened to anyone at any weight but my weight certainly did not help my situation. I had pre-eclampsia that was ignored by my OB and led to a placenta abruption which caused my son to pass away from lack of oxygen. Child loss at any stage isn't easy. Stillbirth, miscarriage, neonatal loss, loss of a living child, or even an adult child are all extremely different but all very much the same. Especially when losing a child in utero, it is our hope and our dreams that are crushed. Our future is shattered right in front of our eyes and there is nothing we can do about it. We feel helpless and hopeless but somehow must go on through it all. I have found my strength in knowing my son is always around me in spirit and always encouraging me to be the best person I can be. I am still a mom just in a different way. I am sorry you had to go through that and I'm surprised they did not give you a pregnancy test before you went in for surgery as that is generally protocol. I wish you the best and I hope you are able to find strength during this difficult time <3

I am so very sorry for your loss. Thank you for your kind words. The quick care that referred me to the hospital did a pregnancy text but not the actual hospital that did the surgery.

Very sorry to hear that. They really should have as it usually is protocol! I had a pregnancy test pre op for my lap band right in pre op that same day even though I have an IUD and chances are extremely slim for me getting pregnant. Prayers for you mama

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
