HI Kober

Did you go to TLBC for your surgery? I am scheduled for Aug 9/07 and I am having a terrible time with the pre op diet. Coffee/tea/Crystal lite, Cottage cheese, yogurt, and milk. I've been eating sugar free popsicles, seems it hasn't hurt anyone else !

Again, I was one of the lucky ones here because Dr. Scott did not require any pre-op dieting whatsoever (just exercise). I did a lot of research on band surgeons in the Atlanta area before I chose my surgeon and most of them require lengthy pre-op diets, meetings, and nutrition counseling.

My surgeon told me that he would only put me on a pre-op diet if I gained more than 5 pounds from my initial consultation to two weeks prior to surgery. Luckily I only gained .3 pounds!!!!!

what is the diff between clear liquid and full liquids? sorry such a stupid ?

Well, clear liquids are just that, CLEAR. You can see through them (water, crystal light, apple juice, Jello, iced tea, lemonade, popsicles, broth, boullion, etc)

Full liquids are liquids you cannot see through such as cream Soups (no chunks in the initial post op period, though), milk, Protein Shakes, thin runny potatoes, puddings, thin runny malt-o-meal, etc.

Unfortunately, yes. I started my pre-op diet today, and I am starving!

Plus the Optifast is okay but I am already sick of drinking it. :faint:

Experiment with flavors - I really liked Cinnamon added to the vanilla - and a few frozen strawberries/raspberries gave the chocolate a nice change. Lots of people add the Crystal Light flavors as well as coffee and use the Magic Bullet to mix it up to a milkshake consistency with ice. Have fun with it and within a couple of days the hunger will go away. Good luck.

I am on day 4 of the Optifast diet and I went thorugh hell on day 2. I was ok until I got home from work with a raging headache, hubby had made me some boiled veg (which we are allowed with our dietician) I ate it gratefully and made myself a chocolate pudding to have after. I couldnt eat it and ended up throwing it away, I think proceeded to vomit on and off for 3 hours, still with a raging headache, I think it was carb withdraw. Anyway said to hubby about 7pm make me a peice of toast and a spoonful of Beans on it, I felt so ill. I couldnt eat it and I couldnt even look at the optifast box without running to be sick. I ended up going to bed at 8pm after retching for 10mins uncontrollably.

The next day I woke up fine and thought ok I cant feel bad at work so I had one weetbix with a little milk and ate that. Mid moring I had an apple (also allowed) and for lunch I had a salad with an egg. Last night was ok and back to normal. I felt fine. So I am determined to stick to it as much as I can, but I cant be like that again. If you are going to slip up it would appear that chicken/fish/egg added to your salad would be ok still for liver cleansing. What do you think but stay away from carbs.

Yep, mine sure does. I'll be on a two week pre-op diet. I really don't see how doctors don't require one, but eh, thats just me. It is two weeks out of my life, no biggie.

I'm in day 7 of my 2 week pre-op clear liquid diet, which includes two 30g of Protein Shakes a day...and my doc considers Tomato juice to be "clear", so that's what's saving me. Never thought a glass of tomato juice would seem so decadent...

Post-op, I'm doing the same thing for 4 more weeks, but the Protein is bumped up to 90g a day.

And then there are the supplements...

My doc includes steamed or broiled veggies in the liquid diet for eight days before surgery, he calls it the "liquid diet plus". It made sense to me and made things A LOT more bearable! I lost the acceptable weight before the surgery and my liver was very nice, at least that's what he said!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
