Disability after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Anyone know if you can file for short term disability in California for the time your recovering from surgery? My husband is planning on getting bypass done in a few months but doesn't qualify for vacation or sick time.

You need to check with your employer but most states provide short term disability at 66 1/3% of your pay.

I am having surgery next month. i have only been with my employer for 6 months so I don't qualify for fmla. My job has short term leave. I will be taking 2 weeks off and will receive 75% of my pay. It isnt 100% pay but better than nothing :).

My husband works for a subcontracter for the post office. He only has 3 employees so they don't really offer benefits. But I think we will apply for ca state disability and hopefully get something back.

I would think so. I was on CA SDI for a few weeks after my gallbladder surgery this really would be no different as long as the MD signed it and they are usually happy too.

Two caveats though. It takes them 6-10 weeks sometimes to start paying out the claim and then they put it on a debit card for you instead of a check. Also it is best to ask for more time than you need as extensions also take a long time to process.

Should be able to. Mine has a 14 day waiting/elimination period. No pay for 2 weeks, but can use PTO for that time (if you have it). Check with your carrier for those details.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
