New Here & 1 Week Post-Op

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone, I just had my gastric sleeve surgery one week ago & I have found this resource. I'd love to hear your story how your first few weeks went. What did you learn the hard way the first few weeks? Things like that...!

Things have gone well for me, just trying to manage my pain still. Frustrated by that pain level and not being able to lift and do like normal.

Congratulations on making it to the the "loser's bench"! I'm one of the lucky ones. The first few days post-op were rough for me. Pain, trouble breathing, fatigue. But by day 5 I started to feel better, and I was back to work a week later and fishing the week after that. I think the hardest part is getting in enough fluids so you don't feel dehydrated. I still struggle with getting enough Water. Make sure you are getting in your Protein, too.

The pain will subside. Before you know it, it will be a distant memory. Good luck!

Be well…

Congrats on your surgery. A few of the things I learned the hard way post-op are:

Learning to take tiny sips of Water. One big swallow too many, and it's all coming back up!

Eating only a 1/2 teaspoon of food per bite. I never knew what Frankensleeve would tolerate, so I had to take a tiny bite of any new food I introduced into my diet.

Keep Pimpin' that Sleeve!

Hello! I too am one week out. My SW was 291 and day of surgery was 280 and today I weigh 268.8. I cannot believe I've lost this much weight in such little time. I didn't have any problems what so ever with this surgery and I did it all pain meds free, not even any Tylenol. I was up and cleaning my house, doing laundry and walking 1 mile with my dog 2 days after surgery. My incisions are looking awesome, I have an abundance of energy, my skin is glowing and I'm going back to work tomorrow. My sleeve has been so nice to me, never vomited, no pains at all....anywhere. I get my protien in each day, not quite 64oz of fluids but pretty darn close. I do burp a lot and pass gas and it feels so good haha. The only regret I have is not doing it sooner. I'm really really really dreading this "stall" that others speak of. But I guess we all go through it. Best of luck to you and everyone else. This was my life changer and I will forever be grateful for this surgery

Welcome to the losers bench! I had a pretty easy recovery with not too much pain except from the incisions. I was also lucky enough to not have trouble with food or Water really. The only thing I couldn't tolerate was milk so I just made my shakes with water, but that only lasted a few weeks. I went back to work after 2 weeks and did fine, I was very tired the first few days though.

I'm two weeks out and have graduated to pureed foods. I use my kids baby bowls and a baby spoon to help regulate how much I eat in a bite. I did the same when I was on just liquids and trying to have broth. Learning to sip and take small bites is a big deal!

Thanks for sharing everyone. Five weeks pre-op I weighted 435 and now I weigh 395. It has been a good experience for me. Found a few things that are harder to swallow, like normal tap Water - warm water is better. Weird stuff. I am to still swallow pills and such and haven't used pain meds very often. Just tired and sore - but still very grateful. Again, thanks for sharing - it's good to hear others stories!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
