Just 8 days post RNY

Recommended Posts

So I'm 8 days post RNY surgery and still 100% liquid diet. Any words of encouragement in knowing the rest of my life will not be a liquid diet? Haven't lost much but I feel it could be because I'm only 8 days post surgery and may still be swollen on the inside? I live in SA Tx and fiesta is going on now and missing all the SA fiesta foods :(

Lisa, your just starting so don't be frustrated. Your most likely still retaining some of that Fluid from the hospital as well as still swollen. I didn't step on the scale for almost 2 weeks after surgery. liquids will go away. I'm 5 1/2 weeks out and eating things that I can chew. I'm down 33lbs and loving this whole thing. food no longer controls my life, I don't worry about what I'm eating and when can I eat it. Once you can start pureed you'll start to feel better about everything. Even being able to eat something like yogurt gives you hope, do don't be depressed or sad. Time goes by quickly and before you know it you'll be eating yummy stuff again. I actually went out to dinner for the first time tonight, granted I only had a cup of awesome chili with cheese and onions, but more importantly I felt like I was a part of the human race again.

Thank you "sugarfreeme" for your words of encouragement. I have never joined any blog or forum before so hopefully you can see this. I am new to this and knowing I'm not the only one helps me. Thank you again this helps me.

Hi Lisa,

I am 10 months post RNY. I have lost 185 pounds and feel terrific! I have never dumped, and have found that I can eat at least one or two bites of all of my favorite foods, even Easter candy! Right now your body needs to heal, give it time, stick to your plan. Believe me the life on the other side is SO worth it!

I'm 11 days post op and I'm mostly liquid. When does your nutritionist let you move on to something soft? I'm up to two teaspoons of plain yogurt. I'm taking an antibiotic because I've had a fever so to avoid a yeast infection I'm doing yogurt for me 3 "meals" this week.

Have you eaten Jello? That gave me the

sensation of eating while being on the liquid portion of my plan. I also like Popsicles because it's almost like a bite.

Thank you ladies for your response, I have a follow up appt this Tuesday so will meet with the nutritionist. I had my first Popsicle today :) and it was good. I wish all of you continued success. And WOW that one response of 185 lb weight loss, TERRIFIC keep up the good work. My reason for having the surgery is to help with my diabetes I am looking forward to the results. I went in at 191lb, but I am only 5"0 tall. I came back weighing more than I went in at and this morning weighed 192lb. Patiently going to wait.

Lisa, it's not uncommon at all for patients to actually gain weight immediately following the surgery. Just hang in there and follow your plan. Rest assured that as long as you follow your plan there is not the slightest doubt that you are going to lose weight and lose it more quickly than you ever thought possible. The laws of science and the universe cannot be denied. Apprehension following the surgery is perfectly normal but it passes quickly and then the real fun begins!

Stay positive, stay patient, follow your plan as closely to the letter as you possibly can, stay away from the scales for at least a week and two would be even better, maintain a food log and, when cleared by your doctor, start exercising at least three times a week .

You're gonna love the new you!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
