Reflux, my poor esophagus

Recommended Posts

Had occasional heartburn/indigestion before surgery but good grief if I don't keep omeprazole and Zantac down I'm having horrible reflux. I'm 5 weeks post-op and was really hoping some of the reflux would have gone away. No such luck. Anybody else dealing with this as a result of being sleeved? Have you found things that work best for you? I'm hoping this isn't for life and yes my Dr warned me but my mind was already made up on sleeve.

Prior to having my band placed, I had a significant history with GERD, and was told by my surgeon that complications were very possible. Because of that history, when my reflux got worse, I was ruled out as an acceptable candidate for the sleeve because of my GERD.

After 22 months I did have to have my band removed to get some relief from my reflux. Two different surgeons warned me that I would have even more complications with the sleeve, and advised if I opted for revision surgery my only option would be bypass.

So far, I am doing well with keeping my weight stable without my band and no weight gain since December.

I hope you feel better....you did not mention if you were taking Nexxium. I was taking it 2X a day, and it did help the most.

Yes acid reflux is a known (at least it is now) complication of the VSG. Let me preface this with the fact that I loved my sleeve while it worked. Anyhow I had gotten GERD with my lap band and in 2010 when I revised to sleeve GERD was not as well known to be a serious side effect of the VSG.

My GERD just gets worse over time. I am taking 40mg Omep in the AM and Ranitidine in the PM before bed because I choke on my acid during the night. It's gotten so bad that now I'm working with my bariatric surgeon to revise me to the Bypass. Don't I wish I knew that already!! I would have just revised to the Bypass without this problem in between. But hindsight is 20/20 - and I didn't know.

Good luck to you.

I have reflux also but I take 40 mg of omp also but I don't know what brings it on. I just hope that one day it will stop but until then I take the pill. I am 8 months out.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
