My story so far...

Recommended Posts

Hi! My name is Casie and I'm 31 years old, married for 7.5yrs with 3 beautiful daughters ages 5, 2, & 2. I started my journey back in January by doing lots and lots of research. I finally made an appointment without discussing it with my husband and made the decision to move forward. My insurance required a 3 month supervised diet and my surgeons group also had a plethora of things that needed to be done before surgery could be scheduled. I found out that I have sleep apnea, which I wasn't expecting but all the more reason to keep pushing through. My journey is really just beginning as I am now 4 days post op. But I have no regrets. I can't wait to see how the next 6 months go.

Heaviest weight: 256

Weight day of surgery: 236

Weight 4 days post op: 231

Hi Casie!

How are you feeling? I hope things are still going well for you! Did you happen to ask Dr. Marker how many sleeve surgeries he has done and have there been any complications? I have been reading some horror stories on here and I a little freaked out! LOL I probably should have stayed away from the "complications" section!! :)

I know their group is very successful. Of course their are complications but they have maintained a "center of excellence" rating because of patient success. I didn't specifically ask that question but he willing told us of some issues he has encountered, some because the patient did not do what they were supposed to an others just a risk that happens with surgeries. I have yet to hear anything bad about either of the surgeons.

Happy Easter! How are you feeling? Hope you're doing well and feeling good! I go tomorrow afternoon for my initial visit and I'm so ready to start my journey. Did Dr. Marker want you to lose a specific amount before surgery? How did you choose your goal weight? I just want to be healthy and have no idea what my goal weight is! :)

I'm doing well. They require 8-10% of your body weight. Also once your initial weigh in, you cannot gain any weight. They document your weight each visit. The nurse told me the morning of my surgery that if a patient comes in for surgery and has gained 1 pound he will cancel surgery. So once you commit to this you need to stick to your plan. I did low carb as they instructed. meat and green, if it's either of those you can have it.

I'm doing much better. I got my drain out today and in the last 20 days I have lost 14lbs. Dr Marker was thrilled with my progress and I'm just glad to have that awful drain removed. I get to graduate to pureed foods now so we will see how that goes. Glad to be on the other side of surgery and feeling like myself again.

Good for you - 14 lbs gone is fabulous! I bet you do feel SO much better without the drain. How long do you stay on pureed foods? Hope they agree with your tummy! When do you go back to Dr. Marker?

Susan :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
