frustrated and havent been able to stay on program

Recommended Posts

its gotten to the point where ive lost everything i can by doing basically nothing. now i actually have to try and im doing more then the required exercise. but i cant get past the head hunger! everything i eat i get the taste for and need more. even when im "satisfied". the most frustrating thing is actually have to diet. i did this so i wouldnt have to diet. i was supposed to rely on the hormonal thing to keep me satisfied enough to know when to stop. im less then a year. right now my dr says im on track for weight loss but wants another 43 lbs by the end of the year. i cant afford a therapist right now and have to rely on the help of the people in here and my dr. any suggestions other then "more protein" and veggies?

I don't know how far out you are but for me I always have had hunger. From day one. I have heard of others not being hungry but for me I am like clock work. Every 2.5 to 3 hours I eat. Now I drink hot liquid to curve my hunger and also head hunger. I have both. I drink sugar free cocoa with whip on top. After I do this I am really full. Something about the hot

liquid.< /p>

I'm not sure if this is bad advice or not, so if you're not a fan of what I say, please disregard. After the first few months, I realized I wasn't dieting anymore and it was wonderful because I could have a taste of everything and not be able to physically eat enough of it to gain weight. For example, some days I will do the traditional version of the diet, and other days I will have half a bevita bar for Breakfast, and then get a pick 2 from Panera. I'll eat 1/3 of a cup of mac and cheese for lunch and then have half a cup of chili for dinner, and not only am I satisfied and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything, but it hasn't hurt my weight loss at all.

I feel like in the begining it's important to follow the exact requirements, but when you're a few months out it is ok to eat things that actually taste good in much smaller portions. The goal was for us to get to be normal again, and eating veggies and baked chicken for every meal the rest of our life is not really living. So my advice would be to not think about it as dieting and when you want to eat a piece of cake, have a piece....just eat slowly and you'll probably realize you can only have a few bites and you're over it. Then the craving has been satisfied, you're not obsessing over things you can't eat, and you haven't hurt your diet at all. :)

if you are truly hungry, eat. are you getting 70 grams of Protein and 64 ounces of Water? snacking on things with Fiber is really the way you want to go... raw veggies and hummus, apples, almonds. you will want to add exercise because that way you will be ramping up your metabolism. esp weight lifting. muscle burns more at rest than fat.

it is so hard to get in the 60-70 grams of Protein without getting sick of what im eating/drinking lol. i have been exercising everyday. 25-40 min walks with my mom. about 190-300+ calories burned. i need to get back to the gym. but im still doing 4 days more of walking than my doctor wants me to. i think thats whats keeping me from gaining more.

I am not that far out but have had some issues with head hunger already! For me, I know it is head hunger but the one response is accurate. Eating chicken and veggies for very meal for the rest of your life is not realistic. You can indulge here and there when your sleeve is ready for it but just make sure you are doing it responsibly and in moderation! My sister is 8 months out and she said when she craves something, she eats her Protein, some veggies, and saves room for a bite or two of whatever sweet it is she wants. That way she can have a bite but doesn't have room to overdue it and it satisfies her urges well! I don't know if that will help you or not but worth a try!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
