I had my sleeve this morning and am back home now. I have pain pretty bad in the upper top of my stomach and can't sleep. The Vicodin is pretty weak. But I am surprised how good I feel other than that. I was so relieved it went well. I got five incisions and those aren't really hurting yet. I am having such a hard time keeping my three year of off me. I have only had about 14 ounces of Fluid but am trying. Sf Popsicles are the best

Slimk - how are you doing now? I had my surgery on May 5th. I am getting a little better every day, but still having a hard time getting all my liquids in. I can really tell if I take too big of a sip - it is uncomfortable. Haven't even tried Protein Drink yet since Water is still difficult. I am happy that I am not hungry and I am down 17 pounds since pre-op visit (5 since surgery). I am beginning to wonder when the drinking will get easier? Curious as to how you are doing with everything?

Hi! I am almost embarassed to say how well I am doing. I am feeling amazing. I am able to drink anything with ease, I get all my Protein in and fluids. I am one week today and am on creamy Soups, I went to Chilis today with co workers and ordered the chicken Enchilada Soup, had them puree it and it was soooo good! I was able to eat maybe 1/3 c and it went down with no problems. This morning I am down a total of 16 lbs.

If you are having a hard time drinking, have you tried room temp or warm liquids? Cold liquids go down a little more difficult for me. It will get better for you....and you are doing amazing with 17lbs!! Keep me updated!

Just got all my clearance for May 12 surgery. Starting to freak out about the permanence of never being able to devour a plate of food or drink with my friends. I can see now that I'll become the designated driver. Yikes! If this was only cosmetic I would probably back out but it's health benefits out way everything else.

I had all the same fears. I had a week long food funeral and ate everything in masses. I finally realized I was tired of food controlling me. You will be so happy you made this choice! I am one week post op and am down 16 lbs today. And as far as the drinking, my doc told me yesterday that I can drink as much as i want after July as long as I have a DD! I am going on a girls cruise late July so I will see how it goes! : )

So I'm on Day 8, and can have cream Soups in addition to the clear liquid items I could have the first couple days out, and I thought I'd pass along a really good option that I've come across. I found a cream of chicken Soup that had no lumps or bumps at all, but a reasonable Protein level--12g: Healthy Valley Cream of Chicken Soup which I found at Whole Foods.

Also a nice change from the sweet Protein Drinks are Amy's Soups. Tonight I'm having half a can of Organic Butternut Squash Soup, and while the protein is negligible, 2g/serving (so I still have to drink at least 20g of protein this evening), it's still a welcome change of taste, and great on the calories, too. I've also tried Amy's Chunky Tomato (pureed), and that was awesome!

Hope everyone is doing well!

But to better my health that is just a sacrifice I will have to make :). Good luck on your surgery sending prayers your way!

Well I am 6 days post-op and I am feeling pretty good. I am down 10lbs from the date of my surgery and down 20lbs from my pre-op visit. I am getting better with getting the 64oz everyday but I am struggling with the Protein. The shakes make me sick. Is anyone else having this problem?

What kind of shakes are you having? The BariEssentials Protein Shake that my doctor required (4 a day and nothing else of substance except for 1 c of chicken broth) for one week pro-op, was so vile that I couldn't keep it down. I was either vomiting or a breath away from getting sick. He doesn't let us pick what protein drink to have - it has to be either BariEssentials or Optifast. I called to see if I could have anything else and they VERY reluctantly let me switch to Premier, which I can tolerate without any nausea (at least the chocolate ones). Only 3.5 days to go. I'm looking forward to the surgery even more now since it will start my journey to being able to have stuff other than the Protein Shakes. I wish you luck!

Lucky you! We obviously use the same doctor as he owns the company that makes BariEssentials. I had to drink those shakes for FOUR weeks prior to my surgery on May 5. Right now I'm struggling to get all my liquids in, still having quite a bit of pain, and oh the leg cramps. I see the dr again for follow up tomorrow before trying to get home to Kentucky.

Bless your heart!!! I could never have gone 4 weeks - I give you tons of credit for sticking that out. I'm not surprised to hear that he owns the company - that makes a lot more sense than his "we get consistent results using this particular shake, " which always seemed like a lot of hooey. I'm sorry to hear you're still in a lot of pain. I hope you get great news from your doctor tomorrow and start feeling better soon. Have a safe trip home and keep us posted....

That's my surgery date, too!! Good to hear from others that we'll still be able to have an adult drink out with our friends, though. I had major food funerals before I started the all liquid diet on Monday, but keep telling myself it will be great to be thin and healthy. On my way home from work today, when I was angry about being so hungry this week and was feeling sorry for myself, I started thinking about my really thin friends and remembering how they eat when we go out. I realized that they eat the same way that we are going to have to eat after our surgery - nibbling little bits and making healthier choices. The only difference is not being able to have drinks with the meal. That kind of put it in perspective for me. Best of luck to both of you on your surgeries on Monday!

I checked it out and you're right! According to Trademarkia, Dr. Kim owns Fortify Nutritionals (and the trademark), which makes BariEssentials. Wow.

I think all docs are different. Mine says no alcohol for 6-8 months.

Ugh! So flipping mad right now. Looks like my surgery will be delayed because my insurance company won't give approval in time. After 3 week liquid diet, I'm about to go out to every fast food place and order one of everything!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
