Feeling nauseous in the idea of eating....

Recommended Posts

This is the first topic I have started here, but I need some advice just to see how I am going to pursue this matter.

I am 3 years VSG post op, and I still have the odd last 10 lbs to lose, but I am hanging in there.

In the last 3 months I was diagnosed with depression, and I am now on medication; so after being in a

roller coaster of eating constantly the first month of anti-depressants, going to normal eating the second month, now

on the third month, the idea of eating anything causes me severe nausea.

I force feed myself just so that I do eat something, and I cross my fingers that it stays down.

I have regressed back to the first days of soft food diet where I could manage about a quarter of a cup of

mashed food, that's all I can manage.

I talked to my doctor about this, and he said that we have to keep watching this and in four weeks time we will see if

I need to change the treatment.

I am afraid that in four weeks I will have dehydrated more than is acceptable (not even Water

stays down) and let's not talk about the rest of the issues that will come up.

Any ideas? Anyone? I really need to read your thoughts, maybe they will stir me to the right direction.

(Sorry for ranting, but this had to come out! Thank you for taking the time to read!)

Hi Marlajones,

I am no doctor but this sounds much more medical than mental. I wouldn't risk my health on something like this. Maybe you could reschedule a visit with your PCP or Bari doctor in a few days and not wait four weeks. I think you need a medical opinion and here we can only give you moral support or at least that is my opinion on the matter.

Either way do take care, we got your moral back so maybe you can take care of the medical and if anyone else has gone through something like this maybe they can chime in. Depression too is serious and needs to be treated which it sounds like you've addressed but dehydration is more of an immediate issue.

All my best to you now!

I agree with @@odesa it sounds more medical. Anti-depressants can cause nausea, loss of appetite. You may need to have a medication change. I would not wait 4 weeks, call your PCP or surgeon to make an appointment. Good luck to you, and keep us posted. Take care!!

I too agree its medical and you need to do something before four weeks is up is you cant keep anything down. Stand your ground with your doctor and you want answers. They are getting paid to take care of you.

You need to call your bariatric surgeon. I email mine with questions, they usually have all the answers you need. Good luck hope it gets better.

Thank you all for your time to read through my plight!

I pretty much got the responses I expected, so a meet with my doctor is a must

hopefully they can get me in for this week.

The only problem with anti-depressants is that they start to take effect after 3-4 weeks of

commencing the treatment, so it's a catch 22 I guess.

Thank you again for your comments, I will try to keep you updated on my progress.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
