Liquid and protein intake

Recommended Posts

I'm one week and 2 days post op and I'm wondering if it's normal to not be able to take in 64oz of liquid and 89g of Protein a day??! I'm getting about 40 of each a day

There is no normal. Everyone's recovery is different. There is however what is recommended. If that is all you can do now, then it is what it is. As you heal, you ability to do more will likely increase. Just keep trying. The more fluids and Protein, the better. ;)

Just do the best you can ensuring you get your liquids in. You can end up in an emergency room due to dehydration. I walked around with a Gatorade all the time for the first month. It was at least 3 weeks before I was able to hit the goals.

I am at the exact same spot and am getting about the same in terms of liquids and Proteins. I have noticed over time that I can take bigger sips and fit more in smaller periods of time but if it makes you feel any better we are right around the same numbers!

I couldn't get anywhere near that amount of Fluid in or Protein but also I was warned about getting dehydrated to I made a conscious effort to keep sipping on Water all day..... or broth.... the shakes count as liquid too. I still probably dont' get 64 oz in at five weeks post op..... somedays. But i try to do the best i can to get close to it.

Thank you guys! Makes me feel better. Unfortunately I did run into dehydration and was hospitalized for a day 2 days after I came home, they hooked me up to the iv for hours. Not fun!!! But I'm doing better now and every day it seems as if I can fit a little more!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
