May 2007 Banders

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I was banded on the 31st. Now 11 days post op and feeling much better. And hey, in the 11 days post op I have lost 9lbs!!!!!!! and lots of inches!!!!!!!! I am so thrilled. I have a couple of questions maybe you guys can help with. I am noticing I have some sort of a scratch in the back of my throat. I feels like some sort of coating on the very back of my tongue and no matter how hard I swallow it is still there and too far back to scrape/brush. I just wonder if anyone has experienced this and if they have any solutions. Doesn't hurt just annoying as crap. Also, since being banded I have noticed I can't tolerate things that are really sweet. They just make me nauseated, therefore, I am having difficulty with the Protein Shakes as most are sweet. If anyone has a suggestion please let me know. I hope all of you are doing well. Check with you later.

How are you getting in your protien. Because I have to get in at least 60grams of Protein.< img src="https://s.bariatricpal.com/uploads/emoticons/default_wink.png" alt=";)" srcset="https://s.bariatricpal.com/uploads/emoticons/wink@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Using Unjury which has 20g per scoop with 4 oz of 1% milk at least twice a day so that's like 24g x two. Then I was doing lowfat cottage cheese and cream Soup with unjury scoop so I haven't had a problem getting 50-60g protein a day. As long as I do the two Protein Drinks a day I get my protein in but I'm afraid to do more than four ounces...don't want to stretch my stomach. So everything is measured by 1/2 cup. Every doctor seems to have very different guidelines.

jfran--I had this & still feel it on occasion. I tried everything to get rid of it, to no avail. I gagged once while I was attempting to rectify it & that scared me, so I just live with it. When I went to the doctor I totally forgot to ask about it because I was asking too many other questions!

I am not doing so good...I am supposed to be on pureed & everything goes down TOO easy and I really don't feel full at all! I don't get a fill until 7/6/07 and I am scared that I will gain back all that I have lost so far! Any ideas?

I know exactly how you feel. I have not found a food yet that does not agree with me. I can eat anything! Believe me that is not a good thing. I am going to the doctor in the morning and I don't think I have lost a pound in two weeks. I have maintained, and I am not even sure how that has happened. My doctor will not give you a fill until two months post op. UGH!

Jessica, sorry it isn't going well for you. My doctor says 2 months also but he wants everyone to loose 8 lbs a month and he will do a fill if that requirement isn't met even if it hasn't been 2 months. I have to loose 3 lbs by Thursday or I will be calling for a fill. I am not hungry very much, just no weight loss since the end of May.

By the way my niece and I were asking your friend how you were doing because I hadn't seen you on the tread in awhile. Good to see you post!

Thanks for asking! I have been really busy with company, kids, and getting ready to go on vacation. I was asking Heidi about you yesterday also. I am getting back to a strict eating plan today, and back to the gym. Maybe we can move the scale.

So far I have been able to deal with the occasional hunger pains/growls, but I just drink lots of Water and keep my liquid calories low. I am not consuming more than 800 calories a day and usually around 500calories is more typical. One thing my doctor does during this stage is prescribe phentermine to anyone of his patients have difficulty with hunger. I have a prescription but so far I have been able to go without it. If you are really having a problem ask your doc for a prescription.

So are you still having the throat thing and is it sometimes difficult to swallow? How far post op are you?? I am seeing my PCP tomorrow for other reasons and thought I may ask him. Like you I tried to scrape/brush my tongue and gagged (scary). Hopefully it will go away soon. Good Luck!

I still feel it at times, almost like there is something back there! If you get an answer from your PCP I'd love to know what it is!

I am three weeks out as of tomorrow, hard to believe! How are you doing besides the throat thing?

Yes, the damn thing is still there! Although it isn't all of the time! I feel it mostly after I am done eating/drinking something. If you get an answer from your PCP I'd LOVE to know what it is! I am three weeks out as of tomorrow...hard to believe! Besides the throat, how are you doing?

Mostly great otherwise. Today I feel more myself. I am 11days post op and I want to chew food so badly. I had a little chicken salad, chewed really well, but I must have just ate too much because I felt like it got stuck- no PBing though thank god, just uncomfortable for a while. I have lost 9lbs and a good 10 inches all over my body. I am having trouble getting in enough Protein because I can't stand the sweetness of my Protein Shakes. But I am thrilled with the weightloss and feeling pretty darn good. I'll let you know what the PCP says about the throat thing.

Hello all! I haven't posted in a bit some here's an update... As of tomorrow I'm 4 weeks post op and will have an appointment with my doctor. I have lost a total of 47 pounds (since I went to the first info meeting back in August 06) - 16 pounds pre-op and 17 pounds since the surgery. I'm feeling pretty good but my scars really itch and sometimes it drives me crazy! ;)

Right now I have been eating about 800 calories a day, some times more but never more than 1000. I feel good and the scale is moving but much slower. I'm at like 2lbs weekly now, which I think is what we should aim for? I can't remember...

I would expect it to be coming off faster, because 800 calories a day is nothing. But I may be building muscle because I've been very active in the last month. I work out 1 hour every day (except Sundays, when I rest). Walking, hiking, biking, belly dance, etc. It feels really good, but I just wonder if I'm building too much muscle to lose right now, and if I need to slow down.

And for some funny news - I have lost weight on the back of my thighs that looks like someone chopped a hole out of it when I put my leg up on the bed. It looks so weird, but what can you do! I know I'll need skin removal/re-configuring, so I'm just taking it as it goes.

Well, that's it for me...

Congratulations on your weight loss!

As for the itching, Benadry makes a spray that I've found very helpful.

I am able to do 8 ounces in the the morning with my Protein Shake. And sometimes I might do two shakes but right now since I really count my calories I barely getting up to 50 grams on the protein. I dont think doing 8ounces is a big deal just try to get to that level slowly.;)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
