Recommended Posts

Just had my drain taken out! (Gross)... And they said it will close on its own?!? Just keep it clean with soap and Water and it will close on its own in a week? Sorry this is all new and disgusting to me... What's your experience with the drain hole?

Sorry to say mine took about 3 weeks to close and it did look gross. I thought mine was getting infected so I showed it to my primary doctor. He said it was ok, just keep it clean with antibacterial soap and keep it dry in between showering. I kept it covered mostly with a bandaid and it slowly closed.

Yeah the drain was gross and that feeling when they remove, ugh! I was told to keep mine covered and was taught to change the dressing daily (simple gauze and tape). It closed up within a week, but I think internally it took longer to heal. That part of my abdomen still felt sore and strained easier then the rest of my abdomen.

Just try to keep it clean and dry and if in doubt call your dr, good luck!

I am three weeks out and the area where the drain was is all healed. It was so gross coming out. Felt like someone was

pulling a worm out of my side. Yuk!

Just don't cover it with a waterproof band aid for long term, or use bandaids. Use a simple tape and gauze as mentioned above. You don't want to hold moisture on that area. The band aid does not allow enough air to get to the area and it will not stay dry. I put a waterproof band aid on mine for my shower, then removed it and washed it at the sink with clear dial liquid soap, patted it dry with a paper towel, and then put on clothing as normal. It healed in about 10 days.

My doc closed the drain hole with steri strips and told me to just let them come off on their own. My other incisions were closed with glue. Took about a week for the glue and strips to all come off. Meanwhile I would just wash as usual in the shower.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
