Post Op March 2014

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Day 8. Am feeling pretty good. Will feel so much better when my hubby doesn't have to pack my wound. I weighed 214 day of surgery (march 24th). I came home on the 26th weighing 224. Tonight I weighed in at 205.

I have a barium swallow xray and blood test tomorrow (well I guess today) and then a nutrition class. I am hoping to move from clear to full liquids.

Today was a nice day here in the midwest...finally! Was good to open the house up and go for a walk outside.

How are the other March 24thers doing?

Doing great! My nut is now allowing me to have cream Soups no chunks and I'm still on the boost shakes and water.. That's just something savory if I need to mix up all the sweetness. Another week and I'll go to mushies. But day 7 was a huge turning for my pain, discomfort, and energy all improved greatly so I am happy about that! Am down 12.5lbs can't complain! And having regular BMs again ;) woohoo lol

Good to see all the "Marchies" doing so well. I'm 2 weeks out still on full liquids. I normally get my Protein in by having 2 shakes a day along with adding unflavored powder to almost everything. Still upping my Water even with the shakes I don't go #1 much so I know my water intake is lacking. Sip,sip,sip,..walk walk walk. :)

I had my staples taken out on Friday and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I started using my elliptical 30 minutes on Saturday and felt pretty good, I will just have to increase my Water intake.

Good Molly. I had my drain removed last Friday. Not going to lie I was a wreck thought it would hurt like a B--/-! But it didn't hurt at all just felt kind of creepy. Lol

I only had a drain for 2 days, how long did you have yours? It felt really weird when they pulled it out and I couldn't believe how long the tubing was.
I had my drain 5 days. I know they told me they actually put the tubing around the new pouch, that's why it feels so creepy coming out, it's unwrapping from around the pouch. And yes I too was shocked at how long the tube was. Glad that part is over!

Caseyann, i hope I can be like you! I'm 5 days post op and still hurting pretty badly. But thats my only complaint really, so I'm lucky.

I still have some pain on my right side, but nothing unbearable. My back has been hurting like crazy as well but the exercise seems to help that. Good Luck hope you start feeling better soon!

I'm 15 days out and still having some pain on my right side nothing unbearable anyone else have that? What do you guys do to help that? Do you think just being more active and exercising helps heal that? I don't go back to work for two more weeks so I don't want to just lay around and wait for it to get better I want to move on from this!! Down 22lbs!!! Only getting in about 50-55oz of Water a day too finding it hard

Try alternating heat and ice. My left side is still sore at 4 weeks but that helps.

Focus more on your body and how you're feeling than the amount of Fluid you're getting in. Is your mouth dry? Are your lips chapped? Does your urine look dark ? Do you feel like you're hungry or thirsty? If you're answering no to these questions, you're probably good. I'm still struggling to get in two 16 oz bottles of water a day so it's sounds like you're doing pretty good.

What's the name of the unflavored Protein?

. I use Unjury, but GNC carries some and some Walmart and Walgreen has a powder from nestle's call beneprotein. Not sure of the specs or how good it is.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well. I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening. So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this?? Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
