I did something stupid and drank too much...did I hurt myself?

Recommended Posts

Okay, I did a seriously stupid thing... I fixed a Protein shake with 1/2 cup almond milk, 1 scoop Protein powder, some of my Vitamins, and ice. My blender added a lot of air and made this fill a 16 oz cup. I slowly sipped it while perusing the internet and downed the whole thing in 30 minutes. I am on day six after surgery. I have no pain, but am full. I realized afterward that I am only supposed to have 4 oz. per serving at a sitting. Also I am not on pain med that would block any sensation. Did I hurt myself or am I obsessing over this? I don't feel anything other than full. I have read you don't feel fullness yet. I am so afraid of developing a leak it's not funny.

I think you will be ok, the air and ice (water) would thin out the shake and it probably just went straight through. This is why we are to avoid ice cream and milkshakes. You only had 4 ozs of milk with one scoop of Protein so I would not worry unless you start hurting.

I am sure you will be fine. I think the liquid would have came back up before it did any damage.

But I would be careful, at such an early stage you could put stress on the staple line if you did this frequently.

I agree that it probably just passed through you..If it would have been too much then it would have came back up...Take it easy and slow until your staples are good and healed...The major factor in this surgery is a change of actions and thought process...Good luck!

Well you are not in the ER so you are fine!! I ate a small piece of chicken on day 4 and ended up in the ER. Not fun and I was in so much pain.

Thank you all. I did not die or have any pain so i guess I'm okay! Always,...Whatever possessed you to eat a piece of chicken? I have been planning my (tiny) spaghetti dinner as soon as I can start on solids and tolerate it, but I could not even think of eating a piece of chicken at this point. Ouch. I hope you are alright?!

I know right? That's the 64 million dollar question... My mom made some homemade chicken broth but left the chicken in there, it was so soft and tatsty and it was just a small piece and it melted right in my mouth, I really didn't thing it would do any harm... I guess that is why they have these rules and you have to stick to it... I absolutely thought I was going to DIE I stayed in agonizing pain over night until I couldn't take it anymore and went to the ER the next day.. got hooked up to the pain meds the IV fluids and then the endoscopy.. I delayed my healing for at least a week or more due to that stupid action. I'm still nervous as anything even with eating Jello. The pain is so vivid. Leave it to me... don't try this at home folks!

I am 8 days out and I have no problem at all with liquids. My surgeon told me to go ahead and drink all that I am comfortable with, just to stay away from carbonated drinks, etc. The first few days were hard to drink anything at all but now I can drink 16 oz in an hour - no problem - I JUST FEEL FULL.

Are you burbing a lot? Do little bubbles come out when liquid goes down? I can't drink too much because of this. It's quite annoying, anybody know when it stops?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
