It occurs to me that a "stall" is not really a thing. I have been confused and upset by these "stalls" since the very first episode at 3 weeks.

But, as I read what you folks have to say, it dawns on me that it is EXPECTED, it is definitely part of the process. We need to stop even thinking about them as a halt of sorts, but a minor blip in the overall path to success.

I was mislead by so many member's descriptions of their weight loss. They would say, "....stick with it and the weight will fall off!" OR "... I had my surgery a minute ago and I've lost 100lbs!"

Comparing won't kill you if you take it with a grain of salt. Understand that, for the majority, the weight doesn't just "fall" off! It comes of in dribs and drabs and once in a while we may be surprised with a loss that is a pound and 1/4 more than normal.

Don't be fooled.

You are doing it right!

You are amazing!

Amen..my friend..you said it so right. "Stalls" r part of the process and it is what you do with these blips that determines your success. If u use it as discouragement..then sabotaging yourself mentally. And then you know what can happen with that. I am not dropping tons of weight every month.. It is steady, however..it also gives a chance to make last lifestyle changes along the weight loss process. Thanks for reminding us longtimecoming.

I don't believe in stalls or plateaus. I call it " Body at rest " Taking a break, catching up to all the changes...My body needs to do this to heal itself and continue to get healthier. So no stalls for me. Just plain old rest periods.......

The only stalls I have had have been when I have not gone to the restroom for a couple days. Sorry i know its TMI.

But also I have said this numerous times. Even when you dont have a loss on the scale, you probably had a loss with the measuring tape.

Preach it sister!!! So very true!! The weight does NOT fall off of you...I might see a pound here and there but I have never seen a sudden/dramatic drop!!! This is work! Watching what I eat and making sure I get up and move...Even when the scale looks like I have gained a pound I don't sweat it because I know my body is adjusting...And I do not weigh myself every day!!! I would freak out if I did that..We are all different and our bodies will react differently. Sounds like you have it figured out!!!

This will hopefully help those who think they are stalling after just days or a few weeks. You can't possibly stop losing weight in the early stages especially, due to the tiny amount of food.

Thank you for this!!! I was sleeved 2/19 and have lost approx 16lbs, however nothing this past week. I was starting to get paranoid that I stretched my stomach already and ruined everything. I kept going back and thinking about "what did you eat or overeat" I thought I was 100% mentally with it for this surgery and I don't think anyone can be. The head hunger doesn't change and your the same person after the surgery than when I went in, I knew all these things yet why am I so scarred? I terrified of failing and having only gone thru this to lose 16lbs. I just have to breathe and relax and follow the system and stop being paranoid.

Don't be discouraged! It's true, we are the same mentally, but I remind myself that I am much more easily satisfied when I eat, and I have to keep reminding myself. It's taken a while, but I'm finally adjusting. Knowing that does help me eat better, although I still indulge sometimes. I just feel more in control. It's a long process. I had my surgery 5 months ago; I've lost 45 pounds, and my surgeon actually thinks that's too much! I'm liking the fact that I can wear smaller clothes, and I don't hate pictures of myself anymore.

It's so easy to be scared! When all we see are folks saying the "weight just fell off".

In reality, it's taking its time. Slowly, cautiously, our bodies adjust. I am guilty of it. I absolutely know better, but when a few weeks go by with nary a pound loss, I've panicked. Surely I've done something wrong, I review the food logs, I check in on the forums.

But I haven't

It's not falling off,

It's stumbling

I'm doing this right

the bigger you are the faster you lose weight in the beginning. so its easy to get upset when you see someone has lost 150 pounds when you have lost 75 in the same amount of time. but then you discover that person weighed 200 more pounds than you did at the time of surgery. that makes a huge difference.

This is very true. Sometimes it's hard to keep this in mind! Same holds true for men, they seem to lose more quickly!

I personally have never knowingly had one because I don’t weigh myself unless at the hospital or doctors the further out I have gone the less I go for appointments so it could be a month or more before I am weighted.
That’s best for me never had to deal with the upset or mind F of it being the same or gained then back to the same again.
No one else has to follow what I do but I honestly think the constant weigh checking is part of the problem even weekly I think is too much.
I also think the good willed “once a week only” becomes couple of times a week then daily then several times a day and the not even registered weighing of your self like every hospital or doctors appointment plus at the gym too.
You then beat yourself up all the time on it not moving or not moving fast enough, not moving like others or stalling or even gaining.
I always knew and understood this is a tool and takes time and everyone is different so I don’t obsess over my weight so I do what I do every day as far as food and all that goes and I let my body shed its weight as and when it sees fit.

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

      Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
