1.5 weeks out, first restaurant trip

Recommended Posts

Had surgery 2/26 and am still in liquid phase. Husband made last minute plans with friends for dinner. I was a bit freaked out. I drank half a Protein Shake on the way to the restaurant and then ordered a cup of corn chowder. It ended up being more chunky than I expected but I was able to skim the broth off the top and act normal. Friends commented wondering if Soup was ok and I just let them know I was eating a lot less these days. I SURVIVED!!! And I'm a cheap date at $2.99!!! :)

you`re very brave. I didn`t go to a restaurant until month four and then could only manage half a kid`s hamburger which took me an hour and a half to eat. Talk to your husband and let him know there are other things we can do besides eating when we go out. People who haven`t experienced it can`t know what we're feeling no matter how well meaning and understanding they may be

Happened to me too, I was sleeved in 2/24 and we had plans to go have dinner with friends but thankfully we went to a Chinese restaurant so I had egg flower Soup, which I was more than happy with :-)

My husband would never do that!!! I had surgery the same day as you and I am not even on Soup yet. Let us know how that chowder sat with you

Oh no! I guess I should have explained better. I wasn't at all upset, we've discussed the tools I have in my arsenal and I was fine with going. Nervous but excited to be "normal" and go out for the evening. Chowder has settled fine and I had a great evening!!

Good for you Amy! My husband and I went out a week after surgery with Friends and I was a big ol baby and just had Water lol. I'm five months out and I can't do corn at all, but love my clam chowder, picking the potatoes out ;-). I'm down over 100 pounds since surgery date of October 7, 2013. Welcome to the sleeve side and keep up the good work!

I didn't really eat much of the corn (not that brave yet). Congrats on the 100 lbs. Totally inspiring to hear of that kind of success!!! And thank you, I'm very very glad to be here!!

I'm not sure if you're kidding, but I was never told I couldn't go to a restaurant at any time by my NUT. I just had to find something I could eat on my phase, which I did, broth from Soup. I posted this to let others know that being social is still possible without feeling like a stick in the mud. The challenge of doing so made me feel even better about my decision to get sleeved. Oh and I'm down 3 more pounds from Friday, so I'm thinking all went just fine for me. It might not work for others. I'm just sharing an alternative to being stuck at home.

I've also gone out twice, both completely my choice. I went to applebees both times and had some broccoli cheese Soup and mashed potatoes. I only ate about a quarter of each thing before I was full, but man was it nice to go out with friends and be able to "eat". And my bill was only $5.75! And I'm only 2.5 weeks out

I have been to lots of restaurants since my sleeve 7 weeks ago, largely because of work travel. My best hints:

Japanese restaurants: eat just the fish from the sashimi; also the clear Soups.

Chinese: dim sum comes in small pieces at a nice slow rate; I concentrate on the shrimp items and don't eat the wrappers.

American: a few bites of the Protein from my DH's plate, or an appetizer like grilled shrimp.

Italian: minestrone Soup, maybe a bit of Parmesan cheese on top.

Fast food: Wendy's chili.

Starbucks: brewed chai and skim milk, add your own sweetener - the pre-made chai is loaded with sugar.

Any time: skip the meal, just have a Protein shake first and go for the company.

To my surprise, almost nobody has noticed that I am eating very little. One person assumed I was doing Atkins. One person said I eat like an elf, and we all had a good laugh, but no embarrassment at all.

Next week is my big challenge: a formal banquet sit-down with open bar, for work, at a table with my boss. I hope my sleeve is not too loud because it makes major noise sometimes! :-)

Hey Amy,

I was sleeved on the same day as you and I went out to lunch with my husband on Thursday with no problem. I just had Tomato basil bisque and a little taste of spinach artichoke dip. Everything went down just fine and it was great to be "socializing" again! My husband was more worried about us eating out but I enjoyed it! I just didn't make a big deal out of it and ordered what I knew I could eat.

I think you're being a little (way) to dramatic.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
