Experiences with Cigna Open Access Plus (LOUISIANA)

Recommended Posts

I have Cigna Open Access Plus. My BMI is 41. The surgeons office is contacting my insurance co to see what portion, if any, they will cover. What all does Cigna require?? If they won't pay, how do you finance?

I've read different posts where Cigna approves with 6 months of dr. supervised diet, some people say only 3 months, some say no wait at all! There are also people who say Cigna won't pay at all!

I'm so worried! As far as financing goes, I have decent credit, but I've read where people get financed easily with one lender, but some people report having to find multiple lenders/take out multiple loans/sell their property! Ahhhh!!! I don't know how medical financing works! Please advise!

Have you tried calling them yourself? Cigna has different plans in different states!!

I can access my plan online. It says nothing about any surgery, except ALL physician recommended inpatient procedures 70% covered. The weightloss coordinator at the surgery center is contacting Cigna to get the exact details. I'm just wondering what all hoops I'm going to have to jump through!

I am also on Cigna OA+ and I was approved for VSG after completing the surgeon's program (psych eval, nutritional counseling, stress test, apnea test and began a weight loss diet plan). As I understood from my NUT, it's your BMI that will qualify you(well, me) -- And I have osteoarthritis in one knee. I opted to switch doctors so now I have to reapply, hopefully not start all over but if thats what it takes! Good luck to you LinsayLouLou.

Cigna is awesome. They covered the whole thing. I had to have 90 days of Dr visits. I had to have a bmi of at least 40. They are awesome !!!

I called them and made sure they told me it was covered. Go on cigna.com and search for bariatric and their policy comes up. It tells u what they ask for.

Good luck!! Oh I'm in New York.

IT was only a 3 month. My first visit was in October and by December I had a letter from Cigna approving me, get this, for 1 day! LOL..I thought wow, I only have 1 day but when I called them, they explained they don't provide coverage date ranges and assured me that the approval would extend for the year if I decided to switch surgeons. They were very nice about it.

I work for Cigna, its 89 day supervised weight management. I am in my 2nd month now... can't wait to be done :-). If you meet your deductible you will just have your copay most likely, if you meet your out of pocket Max you may not have to pay a penny, just depends on your benefits.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
