Hey Punk, I understand your anger. I was so mad and didn't know whether to be mad at myself, the band or God. I started having problems about 14 months out. I first had a major stuckage which passed but after that, it was back and forth, back and forth from not being able to eat any thing to being able to eat only at certain times of the day. It went on almost two more years and then started getting really bad. I started having major reflux. Every night i had it. Had to sleep sitting up in recliner. Then I got to the point where I was vomiting even when I had not been eating. I was essentially vomiting my own saliva. I could eat one time a day generally and usually did not puke it up, but anything else was gonna come up. Then the last few days I puked everything and nothing. It didn't matter if I had eaten or not, I was just constantly puking. The meds didn't help. I decided to call my local doc and couldn't reach him immediately, I went to the ER and my prealbumin level was below severe malnutrition and some of my electrolytes were out of whack. I had talked to my Mexican surgeon about having my band replaced with one of the newer ones and he had advised me to have it removed and then to wait a few months and get it replaced or get revised to a sleeve. I didn't want a sleeve. I had loved my band when it worked right, but I didn't want to go on with the problems I had been having. It got so bad the day I went in the hospital I passed out and woke up with my head in the dogs bowl. Fortunately not face first, lol! I had my local doc remove my band and I had hopes I could keep my wt. off without a band. I was down to around 165, maybe less. Wrong! I wonder if I should have had him replace it, but I didn't. I proceeded to gain 65 lbs then loose 20 then gain it back, then lost 15 as I prepared to go back to Mx. for a new band as my insurance would not cover my band replacement.

I was extremely depressed during the time I was bandless. I felt like I had killed off someone I loved who was hurting me. I called my friend and told him that I felt like I should have tried harder! Anyhow, long story I know, but I have my new band, lower slippage risk than old one, and I am keeping my fingers crossed, and hope to make use of my experiencee with the previous band.

Hang in there, you still have your band, just be very careful, and make it work if it will. If not, get it out, and get a sleeve or a new band. It is just a tool.

Corliss

I'm doing better punkster. I made the mistake of following the directions of an antibiotic. It said to take on an empty stomach. I won't be doing that again. It is a bad feeling to need to vomit, but can't. There was no food and the band wouldn't allow the liquids that I had drank come back up. Between the stomach upset and TOM, I was just too tight to try to eat. Everything has been slow going.

Carrie-I know I have never met you or seen you, but I swear I dreamed you and I were driving around some area. I could never actually see your face (like they did Wilson on Home Improvement). I thought that was really odd and funny.

The support group a few days ago was the most helpful one yet. the topic was building a better bariatric kitchen. we went to Walmart and looked at different food choices. it helped me not feel SO confused about eating.

i am not really feeling any restriction yet but am back down to my lowest weight so that is good.

btw, gbi has a Facebook page as does realize band... which made me giggle.

BTW-congrats on getting back down on the weight. I know how hard that had to be with little to no restriction.

So, what type of foods did they show you?

So, what type of foods did they show you?

frozen salmon, tilapia, shrimp, and imitation crab meat

frozen veg meat (chicken nuggets were suggested), frozen veg, frozen fruit with cool whip, applesauce, fudgesicles, individual fruits in juice, sf pudding

yogurt, cottage cheese, carnation instant Breakfast, canadian bacon, real bacon, lunch meat, canned chicken &tuna

was nice to go to a real store and have someone say this is a good idea for you... maybe not that. it made me feel like there was something i can eat.

That is so good punkster. It does help to have a real idea of what to eat. I think I eat everything you mentioned except the imitation crab. I just hadn't thought about buying any. I may get some today and make same seafood salad. hmmmm.

i eat these too but it was nice to have a professional say this is what you should be eating because sometimes you're just not sure. hoping you feel better. "sounds" that way.

i am super hungry all the time right now but i have only had 1 fill and expected this.

I do feel much better. Thanks. Do you have to wait for your fills like we had to do at the very beginning?

I use a combination of Lose It (it's still free) and myfitnesspal.com to track my calories. I was using the myfitnesspal.com longer so I am more used to it, but I do like Lose It.

I am doing good. I was afraid to weigh because I have been eating a lot more lately, but I got on the scale and I have only gained 2 pounds. I thought it would be more. I was afraid I had gotten back up to 200 but I haven't. I never want to see that number again!! I have my 2 week followup with my surgeon tomorrow and I will ask him if it's ok to start exercising again.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
