yo-yo back and forth

Recommended Posts

hi,

im curious if Im the only one who has gone back and forth with my decision for the sleeve surgery? I do want the surgery but then I let my head talk me out of it and tell myself that I should keep trying it on my own and do better. Then a few weeks later Im giving up on doing it on my own. I just feel so hopeless that i would be able to lose any great amount of weight on my own and Im afraid Im wasting my time/months trying to diet like I always tried all these years. I need to just keep moving forward and not let me fears talk me out of it.

please tell me im not alone!! :(

I talked myself out of it 10 years ago when I was 75 pounds less. Same thing of talking myself out of surgery. You have to decide what is right for you. I will tell you for me it is the best thing I have ever done! If you can get over the fear it will be so worth it in the end. Good luck!!

I was exactly like u ..I would change my mind not to have it. Then I would change to have it. This went on for about 2 months. What gave me the courage to have the surgery is soul searching. I had to admit to myself that getting on another diet was not the answer. As a matter of fact , I was actually exhausted to start another diet. I just felt overwhelmed. I wanted the surgery to help me keep off my weight..not just lose the weight. I have lost 42 pounds so far and I don't feel like I am on a diet. I eat healthy. Wls a tool to get and stay healthy .. Butwr have we have to do our part to get there with eating the right foods, getting some exercise in. Ps. I saw a physchologist pre and post op to help me with emotional eating. You will know if this is right for you.

Ps..I have no regrets...

Hi girlie girl,

I too have questioned it, mostly the risk factor of a revision surgery. I did have success with the band but as we have all discovered it doesn't work long term. My deciding factor is something I have heard my surgeon say quite a few times. He said statistically people with a morbidly obese BMI will never have sustained long term weight loss, unless they have weight loss surgery (WLS). That's why most of us are still battling weight after a lapband failure. That point alone made my decision. The research and statistics say I will not be able to maintain a healthy weight without WLS.

Please note, my surgeon has said this to me numerous times, I have not seen this research. My revision surgery is booked for April 9. (I had my band removed 5 months ago)

I had a lap band 10 years ago. I am 6'2" and went from 324 lbs down to 220 llbs and maintained that weight for 8 years without even dieting. About a year ago it failed and started leaking. I am good at losing weight but I suck at keeping it off. The band worked well for that until now. I have regained most of the weight in a little over a year. The struggle with my insurance company and being retired took a while. I can't keep doing this to myself. I am 54 years old now and decided that my long term health and life is more important than being able to eat big wonderful meals. My wife is an incredible cook. My surgeon is the same one that I had for the lap-band and we have seen each other regularly for the last 10 years. I would have had the sleeve surgery 10 years ago but it wasn't available like today. I have other health problems with my esophagus and stomach that finally got the insurance company to approve it, because my BMI is under 40. These problems aren't related to the band and I had them before the band implant in 2004. I can't exercise the way that I need to because of back problems now, and knee and shoulder joint problems, so working it off is not an option. This is it. I have to make this work.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
