My surgery is scheduled for March 13, 2014 and today is day 2 of my liquids. Yesterday wasn't too bad, today was a little rougher. Does it get easier?!?!

Hi Amanda. I am having my surgery on March 14, 2014 as well. My friend Debbie Hubbs is too!!

I am going to be honest..... the pre-surgery was the hardest because I still wanted / could eat real food and I was Sooooooo hungry! You just have to be strong for the next 12 days and know that you are going to feel so much better after you have lost the excess weight! Stay focused on why you are doing this surgery and feel free to vent and complain all you want online here. We have been where you are! Best of luck to you!

Should be much better after three days. My doctor isn't having me go to only liquids before the surgery. Can you explain why your doctor is requesting this?

I start my liquid on Tuesday for surgery on the 18th. Not looking forward to it, but what's a girl to do? Pull up my big girl panties (literally big girl panties) and get thru it.

My surgeon said that being on the liquid for 2 weeks shrinks your stomach and liver and that makes your surgery as safe as possible.

I started a 10-day liquid yesterday for a 10-March surgery. You are not alone. I just enjoyed a "meal" of Jello. Hang in there. -Phil

I guess I feel alone bc I'm the only one in my house doing this. I went to Walmart, NOT a good idea! I wanted everything lol. When do the hunger pangs start to subside?

My surgery is in 4 days, and my dr only has me starting liquids 3 days pre-op. And never said anything about the liver shrinking diet.. I feel like I might be missing information??? Or is it a doctor preference?

My surgeon isn't requiring me to loose any weight before surgery nor follow a pre-op diet outside of the typical no food/drink after midnight the night before surgery. Surgeons seem to have their individual protocols, but I think a lot is determined by your starting BMI and and how much weight you carry in your mid-section which may make it difficult to use the laparoscopic tools. I met other patients in my Kaiser pre-op classes with the same surgeon who were asked to loose 20 pounds. So I guess it's on a case by case basis. My BMI is 36 but I qualify for surgery because I had PCOS.

I'm post op, and the best advise I can give you is to drink or get in as much Protein as possible. The more I was able to drink, the less hungry I was. I averaged 100-110 grams of Protein a day. Definitely helped me to feel less hungry.

And for me, the beginning was easiest for me. The last couple days were the hardest. Because at at the end all I could think of was that I could never "cheat" again or eat foods. I didn't cheap, but it was definitely harder at the end.

Good luck guys!

I'm having surgery on March 11, and I start my liquid-only diet on Tuesday, the 4th. I'm getting a bit nervous about everything. It's good to know I'm not alone. :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
