February 2014 post op losers

Recommended Posts

I had surgery march 13, so just over a week ago, and I am with you! I still want to eat the other things people are eating around me and feel like I should be less hungry? I also feel like my stomach can hAndle anything, as I've had absolutely no nausea to divert me!! I'm doing well, but I fear failure in the Future because willpower really will need to come into play. I was told I wouldn't even want to eat after surgery. Well I do! Is this bad?

Things just take time. I'm almost 6 weeks out and eating is like a chore now. I get hungry, I eat, and I'm done. But in in the beginning I felt like I was going to starve to death. I cried so much because I wanted to eat something so bad. Once you get into soft foods you will definitely feel the satisfaction of chewing and being full from a little amount of food. Don't worry about it to much, I thought the same thing but I'm doing good now!

Thank you both for sharing... This makes me feel a bit better. Man, this is all so much to figure out and gage and come to terms with. Here's to a great, healthy new life and sticking together through this!!

I'm officially 80 lbs down! That a loss of 30 lbs since surgery. Heck yeah!

On a different note, can I acknowledge how much I hate dumping. I always vomit and then get the shakes and sweats and feel like crap. Why can't I just throw up and get it over with. Lol if only!

I had a delicious tamale and kept the whole thing down. Yay! Another food to add to my list of things I can tolerate. I did discover that fish is out of the question...:-( at least for now.

Hi all my February friends. I have been away so long but I've caught up with your postings and am so proud of all of you. If you can believe it I still don't have approval. I did accidentally find out that it was submitted today. My insurance company said to call back Monday. I don't know if I can wait that long. Most likely middle to late April surgery.

Claire, your posts are so encouraging, well, everyones' are. Erin, you are doing great I love your attitude. Dreaming, I am so sorry for your loss. I am still reeling from the loss of my mom in May of last year. I relate a bit to what you had to go through, in 2000 I had major neck surgery and five days later my sister, niece and brother in law were all killed in a car crash. I wasn't supposed to go up and down stairs at that point much less get on an airplane to fly 2000 miles, but I did. My heart pours out to you. Zom and Erin both congrats on the 30 pound loss.

My husband and I move on Saturday so I have been packing like crazy, stressing like crazy, we're dealing with trying to get his disability approved through the VA and it is taking forever. They were supposed to pro ide us stuff for our move and we haven't heard from them. So angry as they don't return our calls. I have been extremely bad these past few weeks. I haven't recorded my food, weighed myself, exercised, or even recorded my glucose levels for weeks. I was so afraid that I would gain a ton of weight. I got back on the scale this morning and was shocked to find that I have actually lost six pounds since the 4th of March.

My best news is that the house we are moving to is within walking distance to work so I am going to walk every day starting Monday. The other thi g is that we are moving to a house where we don't have a fence somwe will need to walk the dog a few times a day. I've got friends that live not too far so we will walk together when we can. Our dog hasn't been on a leash in probably 6 years. Currently we have 9 acres of land and live out in the country a long way from busy roads we have been here for 8 years. He is so good that when we take trips and stop at rest areas with him we don't need to put him on a leash we just tell him to stay next to us and he does, but now we are moving to the busiest street in town, and can no longer let him out the door and expect him to stay right there in our tiny yard. So between walking to and from work and then walking the dog I should be getting in at least 3 miles a day. Let's just pray it doesn't rain all spring and summer. LOL

I wish you all the best. I'm going to keep checking in with all of you and will , et you know when I get approved and get to have my surgery. Sorry for blabbing so long. Best wishes everyone

Sorry I have been MIA lately. Just trying to adjust to getting back to reality. Claire, I am a nurse, but I work in a doctors office and I sit at a desk all day. That was rough at first, but it's getting better. I'm trying to get my rear in gear and get to the gym. I wish the weather would cooperate here in Ohio, so I could get outside and walk the hike and bike trail by my house. Hope everyone else is doing well!

I'm doing really well! I had my 6 week check up on Monday and everyone was extremely pleased with my progress. When I get down to my goal weight they might use me as a poster child, which they would show patients my before and after picture and I would speak to people just starting their journey. Sounds like an amazing experience to me. Eating and exercise I have done very well and I am starting to really feel like a normal human again, slowly though!

I've had a ton of NSVs, which is the best feeling in the world!!

Also, I'm visiting Florida in less than 2 weeks and I get to see my best friend for the first time in 2 years, he's going to be shocked when he sees me!

How's everyone else doing? Not many posts on here lately. Hope everyone is doing awesome.

Highest weight; 406 lbs

Surgery date; 355 lbs

6 weeks out; 322 lbs.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
