Have not had first fill yet...feel like I am eating too much, help

Recommended Posts

I am trying to stay at the three meal a day, half cup size per meal limit that my doctor gave me, but the past few days I have been eating more then that limit, or actually eating more then three times. I am not stuffing myself, but I am eating maybe four or five meals per day. The size of intake is between a half cup and and whole cup poer each meal, I am eating to be full, but I do get hungry faster between meals. I dont get my first fill until Tuesday and I just want to tell the doctor i NEED real restriction. Is this normal?

Well well well....in my humble opinion....yepp I say this alot! I think that restriction or no you have to realize that you are working with the "tool" provided. I was banded in Jan and didn't have my first fill until May. I had lost about 40lbs maybe more I don't remember now, by then. I stuck to my guns essentially. I thought darn it I have done this and I am going to succeed. In my opinion you will always be able to eat beyond your band. There are tonnes of things that will always go in....you have to set your mind to say...NO! I am going to make this work for me and I am not going to eat this! I used the hunger that you are probably experiencing as a reward,,,odd I realize, but I knew if my tummy was growling it didn't have too much food in it and I was succeeding. Alot of people will likely disagree with this comment...but hey I have lost 125lbs and have kept it off for 3+ years, I have ran a triathalon and created a new thinner life for me...so I think whatever it takes. Good Luck...go get em! Just my 2cents.

POPT and the odd tummy growl!! grrrrrr

Hi, I am feeling exactly the same as you. I am not allowed to have my first fill until after 3 months, another two to go. I am now onto solid food so i am hoping that this will mean that i will stay fuller for longer. I recently had a visit with my nurse/dietitian and she thinks that i am not drinking enough Water, and its actually thirst not hunger. I am trying to drink more, i work outside and the problem is the more i drink the more i need to find a toilet. Can't have it all i suppose!!

When you think about it, 1/2 cup 3x a day isn't very much food. I have been eating yogurt and applesauce and Protein drinks, as I am still on soft foods. I don't know that I'm staying within those parameters but I sure am hungry a lot...

I can't wait for my first fill...

I know exactly how you feel! I'm 3 weeks post-op and not getting my 1st fill until April 17th and I eat pretty much anything I want and it's scarry! I did gain 3 lbs and I freaked out!! I'm hoping my band fills me up or at least limits what I eat!! I know it will get better, it's just frustrating right now until i get my fill. I need to stop eating! :help:

Try to realize the "normal" consumption of calories is approx. 2000, as a bander you need to watch those calories. I'me 6 wks out and my highest consumption of calories was 732. Think about how many calories you ate pre-op and compare it to now. My doctor told me if you eat the nutritious stuff first and snack on low fat yogurts you should be fine. Talk to your doctor.

Karlee, don't cry..you will be okay. I would just make sure you are getting in all your Protein. Are you losing sizes? You are doing great. There are people who believe in 2 theories. 1 to reduce calories or 2 to up your calories. You may want to go down to 800 or up to 1200 to test the waters. You should find you aren't as hungry now that you have had a fill. Good luck and keep the faith.

When I started to feel well enough I started walking. Everyday, 2 times 30 min a day, went to the dr and found I had gained 6 lbs. I cried!!! Here's what the nutritionist told me, since muscle weighs more then fat, and I've not been using those muscles for an (undisclosed amount of) time I was actually building up muscle and to cut down the walking to maybe 30 min a day and more strolling then walking pace. After 9 days, I really started to lose weight, 7 lbs then 10. Don't worry, don't get frustrated, we're all learning together : )

I know how you're feeling. I am getting impatient for my first fill. I have noticed that my hunger is not as bad if I've consumed enough Water and Protein throughout the day. I started logging my food intake on fitday.com and it has really helped. In the beginning I was definitely not eating enough protein.

Karlee, you're doing great! I was starting to feel down because others were losing weight faster than me despite my daily exercise and keeping to a daily intake of between 800 and 1000 calories. I took my measurements and discovered that there was 6 inches less of me. I then reminded myself that the average weight loss with a band is 1 to 2 lbs per week. That said, I am still envious of all those losing weight so much quicker than me. BUT, I'm trying to stay positive and hope you will too. :D

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
