Esophagus pain (I think!)

Recommended Posts

I am one week post-op and I'm having a problem when I take a drink of anything. It seems to stop at the point they repaired my hernia and then I get a sharp pain and a gurgling sound. I had to go back to the hospital this weekend because of vomiting and dehydration and they performed a swallow test. It showed that it is slowing down a lot at that point but does eventually go down. My question is -- will this pain stop? Is my esophagus swollen and that is what is causing the pain?

Why didn't you ask the medical people at the hospital? 1 week post op everything is still swollen. Best of luck.

Esophagus pain.... various things you mention may have have caused some trauma to your esophagus.

Surgery itself. Being intubated. The tube they place down your throat during surgery causes a lot of local trauma. It does resolve. Try spraying a little chloraseptic back in your mouth and see if it help soothe it.

Vomiting. Your throat is probably already irritated from the breathing tube they inserted for surgery and vomitus has a lot of acid which further irritates the mucosal lining of your esophagus.

Dehydration: Causes lack of moisture and dries out your mucous membranes.

If your swallow test was normal... just take it easy on your throat for now. This too shall pass.

Good luck.

Yes it does! I know exactly how your feeling I had surgery on the 17th and the 1st week everything i drank hurt and I could open my mouth and this gurggling sound would come out like a clogged drain going down is what it reminded me of. It is because your esophagus is inflamed and I took one anti imflammatory and started getting some relief. But now I am 13days out and I no longer have that feeling. The only thing I get sometimes now is a rumbling in my tummy when I eat creamy Soups that are a little too thick.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
