Marijuana

Recommended Posts

I can agree to disagree I just can't see not legalizing it because it MAY be harmful to others, through my research I find the benefit outweigh the risks. I don't know what I would have done during radiation treatments not having it, I was very sick without it. Everything and anything may be harmful to others. Stress and driving while tired is harmful. I just don't see how we can ban something that has been proven to have medicinal benefits where as things like alcohol and tobacco do not but they are legal and socially acceptable. We can't guarantee people won't drink and drive, text and drive, or drive tired, or under the influence of prescription medication (all extremely dangerous). all we can do is encourage people not to and educate them on making the right decision and enforce the laws that come with those rights.

Hmmm... Let my chime in. I have 3 kids. Ages 17, 19 and 22. If they were to go out and "party" I'd much rather them forgo the pills and liquor and instead use marijuana. It's safer. Period.

I could lose my child over a pill OD, alcohol poisoning or even drinking n driving. But, if my kid were to smoke "too much" pot what are they gonna do? OD? No. Eat? Probably.

How can you come here and post, when you, personally, have never even tried it? Oh yeah, because your children had it blown in their faces. Well, not to be morbid, but if their parents had been abusive in a different way-say being burnt with a curling Iron, would you be against curling irons?

The parents were the ones abusing those children. Pot didn't make them do that. They weren't sitting there smoking pot and then all of a sudden not care about the welfare of their children and decide to abuse them. They already had that tendency and blowing it in their face was only one way to act that out.

heroin is killing our young people. So is alcohol and pills. It's ok , even celebrated, when society advocates alcohol use and abuse, and thousands are behind bars because of mandatory sentencing for pot possession. Marijuana, when used normally, is far less harmful than any other drug. Of course, some will have a problem with it, but those folks would likely abuse other drugs. They need help

As a chronic pain patient, I wish I lived somewhere with medical marijuana was available...don't like feeling high, though :(

This thread seems to have lost its focus... lol. I def have heightened munchies. In fact its the only time I experience traditional hunger. My stomach growls and everything. I micromanage my food with mfp. I don't smoke alone, I don't negotiate my numbers and I have lots of high Protein low carb Snacks. Plan plan plan.

I've been consuming Marijuana since I had surgery and for quite some time before as well. I find it helps me a great deal with nausea and anxiety. I don't roll joints or use a bong since I'm scared of carcinogens and other chemicals. I have something called a (Volcano) vaporizer. It's much more healthy to consume MJ this way. I also bake with MJ but don't eat goodies often since they give me maaaaaad munchies! :D It's illegal here in NY but it might as well be legalized since the cops don't care (unless you're colored!) and you only get a ticket if caught with under an OZ. Just make sure you munch on carrot sticks and fruit instead of cake and sweets!!

Did you ever stop smoking MJ before or after surgery if so how long

When I do I have 1 thing afterward... A single 3oz. cup of sugar free fat free pudding made with skim milk. If I want something after that my hubby can only give me tea or Water.. That way I stay in control I my calories and good intake!!! I do not use mj recreationally it is medicinal. What I have found out is it is much easier than I expected to curb the cravings post RNY

Did you ever stop smoking post or pre-op if so for how long? And when did you start back

My new home state has made it legal. (Co) Guess if I ever find out I will come and share. Very interesting topic!

I live in Texas and mj is still ilegal here, I am against using it

recreational but for using medically if needed.

I respect that, I actually do like to hear others point of views as long as they aren't attacking someone else's way of life. Like my personal opinion is I'm against the consumption of alcohol period. Even though it is legal I'm against it. Marijuana is legal here for medicinal purposes (soon to be recreational) and it has improved my quality of life drastically.

For those of you who use marijuana for medicinal or recreational purposes... How have the 'munchies' affected you post op? -for those of you who are anti-marijuana, your negativity on the topic is unwelcome.

Regarding the topic that this thread was for before all the other nonsense lol I have been smoking for years and marijuana actually helps me a lot after surgery for nausea and very surprisingly I do not get the munchies at all! I was scared it would give me the munchies and I would pig out but that hasn't been the case at all. I definitely consider myself lucky it doesn't!

I live in Denver and do use mj recreationally. I waited for several weeks after surgery but my doctor and nut said it was fine.

I DO get the munchies and am sad about that.

It DOES settle my stomach when I'm nauseous.

It has A LOT less calories than alcohol.

So while I'm sure everyone is different, I won't be using mj regularly anymore after I move out of state next month. Not to say I won't occasionally partake, but the munchies are enough to deter me from being a regular user. Plus, it's illegal in Texas.

How long did you stop during before pre and post op and?

I use mj for chronic Migraines associated with a brain disorder that cannot be cured, only treated... The only thing that gets rid of these migraines caused by this disorder are heavy narcotics and mj... I prefer the later since narcotics can be soo addicting!! I stopped about 2 months before surgery and then didn't start back until about 3 months post op... During the 3 months post op I got a little too dependent on my narcotics and that when I went back to the mj... So after about a week I was off the meds again with no problem!!

How long did you wait after surgery to partake?

I'm sure this will sound very bad to some people (oh well lol) but I did the night I got home from the hospital so 2 days after the surgery. It helped a lot with pains, gas and nausea. I only took maybe 2 hits at a time tho and small ones so I wouldn't cough. Im only 8 weeks out but i healed great and have lost 62 lbs so it didn't do me any bad.

Did you stop smoking before surgery and how often did you smoke when you got home daily? Every other day?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water. Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
