My 600lb life

Does anyone watch this show on the TLC channel? It's on Tuesdays and it shows people who are close or even over 600lbs who undergo wls to save their lives. This last one on the 21st was the story of a 45 year old named Penny who weighed 530lbs. I was so frustrated watching the episode! She was in the hospital for a month and lost 40lbs so the dr agreed to do wls on her and chose the sleeve. He wanted to do the switch eventually. She never lost any weight!! They followed her for a year and she GAINED weight! She had an excuse for everything they asked her to do. She was bed ridden and refused to try to get up and walk!! She never walked the whole year, it ended her weighing 495lbs and still not walking. I just don't understand why you would uproot your life, undergo surgery and then not follow drs orders. I honestly didn't know it was even possible that you could even have that surgery and NOT lose weight! The dr suspected her husband was sneaking her food! She was griping at the nurse that no one told her she was going to be on a diet and expected to lose weight while she was in the hospital! Are you kidding me?? She was in the hospital 4 months after and never lost a pound so the dr gave up. I just don't get it. I guess some people really think wls is a quick fix and you don't have to do anything but wait for the weight to fall off. It was just very frustrating to watch. Anyway, that's the first one I've seen that had a bad outcome. Most of them have been really neat to see how they get the weight off and go on to living life again.

I liked this one too. He was so positive and really tried to eat right and exercise. He was one that truly deserved the second chance.

Yes, James story was a good one. I love when things totally turn around for these people on the show. So many times obese people are perceived as having zero willpower and that's just so not true. I think it's great that this dr is willing to help those that are 600+ and give them second chances at life. I really do wish the best for them and for all of us that have struggled with our weight.

I love the Surgeon on the show. He does not accept their excuses and tells them the truth. I really like to see his reaction when they tell him that the weight they gained is water weight. He told one girl that she would have had to drink 300 gallons of water to gain the 17 lbs that she put on. I like that he calls it like he sees it

I don't have edema but my mom does and it is absolutely possible to gain 17 lbs of water weight. My mom had 63 lbs of water weight and ended up in the hospital due to it. She is coming home soon but had iv of lasix for several days. I know it wasn't real weight because she eats what we bring her and she is lucky to get in 800 calories a day because she has no appetite. With that said a lot of people is that as an excuse and the dr sees thru that for sure. ;) plus if their chest is clear and legs not showing edema than it isnt water weight. Lol

Was that Penny...ughhhhhhhhhhh u got on my last nerve

Her story was amazing! I love that she got off all her weight, reached her goal, had a baby and continued to keep it off. She was very determined and worked very hard. I like that she went on to work for the dr helping counsel other patients seeking wls.

I ask myself, 'Who the heck is feeding these people'? Does their family really want to feed them to death? I' m down to antennae tv and can't watch them. I tried utube and they want$. I did find a British show called Fat Doctor with a gentle surgeon. Full episodes.

I'll have to look for that show.

I do like the older shows, where they fallow them for 7 years!

I'm watching it now. She's not the first to have the sleeve, Penny had the sleeve done. I think these are the only 2 tho, the rest I've seen have all been gastric bypass.

So happy Tara got on board and has done well. They made me get off the bed and do some weight lifting thanks TLC

I love these shows!!

It's recording now. :)
