So, Sarah asked me last night if I'd had any food funerals. I had to admit I definitely had and I still plan 2 more. My pre-op diet starts in a couple of weeks and there is a deep dish pizza and an Italian place that serves a lasagna in alla panna sauce. I'm not one of those that are going to just "eat in moderation". I can't do that. Carbs are major trigger foods for me so I plan on sticking to my Drs meal plan the best I can. I'm sure there may be days where I "backslide", but I'm hoping for the best. Here is my question:

What did/is your final food funeral gonna consist of?

Chinese food. Giant plate rice, Singapore noodles, sweet and sour chicken and dumplings. Oh and pot stickers. Also there are ways to make lasagna healthy. Use zucchini or squash.

Yeah but it's mainly their sauce. It's a white cream sauce with a hint of marinara. Your Chinese food sounds yummers.

Anything Italian for me...I had food funerals for pizza and Pasta dishes at my favorite food places. Oh and zapoli...little Italian donuts dipped in raspberry, chocolate or caramel sauce. Mmmmm.

Then I got sick of saying goodbye to those foods. I actually started my pre-op diet a day early because I was just tired of thinking about it. I needed to work towards something and the food funerals were a little depressing.

The night before surgery, the doc told my husband and me "You have no restrictions on dinner tonight other than no buffets and go light on red meat." I thought he was joking after 2 weeks of liquids! He wasn't.

We ended up going to macaroni Grill because we don't have one locally. We had a great meal - an appetizer, entree and even Desserts. What surprised me was how little food I ate - probably half of what I normally did. I also enjoyed every bite.

Since I've had surgery, I have only wanted one thing to which I said goodbye...pizza. I had it the other night - it tasted OK, but made me sick after.

I just might start my pre-op diet the day after my birthday, my sister just called and asked where are we going for my B-day. Usally I'll say it doesn't matter, but now... I have to go out in style LOL

My food funeral will be for Fried fish, sesame shrimp & hoagies. I'm kinda dreading the "no bread" thing. I know that I'll be able to abstain though.

I actually didn't have a food funeral. It took me over a year from the time I started looking into WLS until I finally decided to go ahead with it, and I think by then I was just ready to get on with it. Shockingly I don't miss most of the really bad stuff I used to eat (cheesesteaks, pizza, etc.) and it has been easier than I anticipated so far. Not passing judgement on anyone who wants to have their "last supper." I totally get the idea and originally thought I would do something similar, but it honestly just slipped my mind.

There is no food you can never have again. So there is really no reason to mourn any food. By all means have our food funerals. But you will realize soon enough that it was a tempest in a teapot.

Yeah. I know it's in my head but I'm gonna have my lasagna the day before my pre-op. What's odd is I have cut out so much sugars and sodas and fast foods and fried foods and I don't miss em.

Let's see, where do I start? 3 cheeseburger Mc Doubles, a dozen donuts, Cookies, Chinese food, Taco Bell, a few gallons of ice cream, a huge plate of Pasta, and one pizza. Not all at once :) , but over the course of a week.

Yes, I am a food addict and binge eater. I'm on the preop diet now and am barely hungry. What a change!

I did the same, guys, and found it entirely unnecessary...I am six weeks out and can eat almost anything I did before the surgery...except terribly spicy food (I learned that the hard way).

My tastes have changed, I absolutely do not crave the fatty, salty stuff...but I don't miss it either...

I can't "just have a little" or I'll eat and then go find a shit ton of slider foods that are high carb. So yeah. Goodbye lasagna.

If your views are different, yay you. I wish you lots of success in your journey. Unfortunately, to have just a little would be the start of a really bad place for me.

You misunderstood, I didn't mean I do eat anything, I mean that I can. I am on a very low carbohydrate high Protein diet, and it is amazing that I do not crave those old foods...

I guess I would discourage "food funerals" because I overdid it and don't want to see others do the same. You will still be able to enjoy a piece of pizza, but one will make you feel like you ate a Thanksgiving turkey!

The best thing of all is that you will savor every bite once you come back to normal foods after surgery...the bite of salsa, the creaminess of a good yogurt, and the savory taste of a piece of chicken...it makes you taste your food!

I had a couple of bites of Cold Stone ice cream last night. The first one tasted so good - after that I was like, "Whatever."

I'm a moderation person on some foods - carbs are a gateway drug for me. I will never eat bread or Pasta like I did before.

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
