It's simple. Ask me a question and I'll answer to the best of my ability. WLS related or whatever is on your mind (which is probably WLS). I'll be a one question at a time buddy/mentor. I had another thread like this a long time ago but I'm too lazy to go find it.

Go for it!

What's your position on eating carbs and eating plan in general? Do you "diet" strictly, or are you more of an "everything OK in moderation" person? Do you allow yourself to eat bread, rice, or Pasta?

Hi RXG, Gosh well I suppose what I have kept off is due to a daily struggle of doing the right things. I can't workout like crazy anymore but I do something! I do some recumbent bike and muscle toning. Then I always ALWAYS do the Protein first approach when eating my meal. Then I eat my veggies. Then I'll eat some carbs, whatever it is. I still get full pretty quickly, even 3.5 years out thank goodness.

I can try little fad ideas like the bootcamp or even the 8 hour diet which I'm going to start tomorrow probably. But the real is no matter how many hours I allow myself to eat, I better not put more calories in than I'm burning in a day. For the rest of my life.

Hi Noor, I eat carbs every day. I don't shun them but I do eat them in moderation. Like above it's always the smallest portion I put in my stomach. My tiny tummy is like real estate land. I'm not going to put a bunch of trash on my lawn, no! I want to put nice attractive things. Same goes for my stomach.

Yes everything in moderation BUT since being on my butt includes *maybe* one thousand or 1200 calories a day max... a cookie probably is not the best choice at this time. When I was burning a lot more calories I allowed for a lot more fun stuff. I do my best to avoid refined sugar and keep my Protein as high as possible. bread and Pasta I do eat, but I sure get full on it quickly. I definitely have to fit my meat source in first.

:)

Howdy Chanelle! Awwwweeeeeeee welcome to the losers bench!! All you're going through right now will someday be a distant memory. You're reminding me of some very tough times! Haha :)

Feeling nausea for the first few months post op is extremely common. Your stomach is still healing and not everything you put in there is going to agree. I'll tell you what gave me terrible nausea, anything with dairy. It hated me! I had to use nothing but Lactaid products (milk, cheese, etc) or I was feeling sick as a dog. I couldn't do more than a spoonfull of anything or even a sip of Water at a time.

The Constipation is likely from the lack of Fiber you're consuming right now as well as not getting enough fluids. Truthfully you're lucky to be getting in 5-8g per day and the RDA for a healthy female is over 25g! I used the "sugar free fiber gummies" during that time. Did it help? I don't know but it made me feel better thinking I was getting more fiber in.

My advice, take it one day at a time. In about a year you'll be able to get more fiber and water in.

Hello BGP! It's nice to see you. :)

Here is the Link: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/199346-the-basics-boot-camp/?hl=%20basics%20%20bootcamp

Good luck! Drink lots of Water, Protein first and if you have to maybe switch up your workouts. Our bodies get used to the same routines quite easily.

Wow you have lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time! You've just hit the 3rd week plateau. It happens to more of us than it doesn't. It all physiological which I'm sure if you have time you can find someone who has posted about it. The main idea is that you just keep doing the right things and the scale will start moving again.

In times like that I would keep taking pictures, trying on my old clothes and measuring myself. The scale is NOT the only measure to success. ;-)

My question is how do you advise the newbies scared to go through with the sleeve surgery? In most cases they have been planning for ages and then get freaked as the time approaches.

At my age, I never had any last minute jitters and was looking forward to having a healthy body to see me though the rest of my time on this planet.

I'm with you, Magtart...I didn't give it a second thought...went full throttle from the time I started on my journey to get approved right thru my surgery...my husband was probably more apprehensive than I was (he wasn't my hubby at that time) ... surgery is surgery and it can be a bit intimidating; but like most, I felt that my quality of life was non-existent and this would help me get it back, and it HAS!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
