You sound like you are doing very well. I do not remember being that thirsty, but always listen to your body. It knows best. Thanks for keeping us updated.

!0 days out My back is completely.healed! My sides are almost healed and my front is getting there. I actually felt human again today. I wish I could find a way to conceal the tubes! At least its winter and I can hide them under a bulky sweater. I can walk standing straight up! Starting to get little tinglys around the scar area. I had desolving stitches and glue, so at least I don't have that to worry about except where the tubes are.

Thank to reading everyone elses posts, I know not to assume I'm better and don't do too much. I get more excited watching the swelling come down and I'm shrinking. I'm still the same weight today as when I went in for surgery, so I know theres still alot of swelling. My fear is when they changed my port, I lost my Fluid, and everything is going through, Dr wants me to want a few weeks to get a fill, so I'm eating enough and some of the feeling comes back in my belly. So I can eat and not excercise I need to drum up alot of self control.

Hang in there! At my consult the PS said your metabolism triples in this recovery and you need to eat a lot of Protein to heal. She said post WLS patients get freaked out with no exercise and a need to drive up calories. She said you won't gain weight, "it's mentally hard but you just have to trust me."

I have had two other non WLS related surgeries with long long recoveries and limited exercise. The second one was a major repair to my shoulder and I was hungry!!! So I ate. I still lost weight.

I do trust this surgeon and it helps to know that she works often with my bariatric surgeon. They are two of the 6 co-owners of the surgery center.

Any way, I'm rambling. If you're hungry you can eat. Your body needs it to heal all those internal layers.

Thanks for posting. I'm preop PS so I'm really listening to everything :)

Well, missed a follow up yesterday cause my ride won't drive in snow. Doc dosen't want me to wait till Monday since he's not available after 10am today, Soooo guess I'll just have to take myself! I know I can do it, just rambling. Everyting is good, I can stand up straight walk without any problem, I just get really lightheaded if I stand up in one spot too long, but my butt's still numb! Couple nights ago my husband left the seat up, I didn't look and fell in! I can't remember the last time my fat ass fit in the toilet!

I look and feel like I never had surgery, except for the damn drains. Two should come out today, I'm barely getting a cc out a day, the other two are getting about 20 a day. One produces some icky yucky stuff!

Got on the scale and down 10lbs from surgery! Finally got rid of the 10 lbs they took off!

Guess I'm not doing too bad for an old girl!

Sue

Well I now know why not to drive- didn't realize how much twisting and turning you have to do while driving.

Anyway everything is great! 1 tube gone. Monday should get the 2nd one out.

Glad your doing so well. Where is this PS located at. I'm trying to find one to check on cost. I have Cigna Health Spring and they only cover belly fat and maybe breast lift if I'm lucky.

1 day shy of 3 weeks, still have 2 drains producing about 50ccs each daily. Felt really good the other day, went walking around the flea market and the grocery store. Still get tired easily. Got half way through the store and got severely light headed and had to sit down. Today I feel like I've been run over. I can't understand why I can't stand in one spot for more tha a couple minutes with out getting dizzy.

Having a little issue with my belly button. It keeps oozing. Can't wait till I can put some real pants on with out it looking like I have a huge set of balls! There's no where to hide them! Ugh! Just getting restless and very bored. Thank God for these forums and Facebook or I'd go insane!

3 weeks today. Went to dr and took my binder off and somehow I had ripped a 1 inch long 1/2 deep gash in the middle of my back. Have no idea how I did it. My drains are still producing too much Fluid to take out. So I'm at a two week set back. I'm so bummed. I was hoping to go back to work next week.

Easier said than done. I was good the first 2 weeks after that boredom sets in,and things need to be done. So you try alittle bit and a little bit more. Especially when your by yourself and noone to stop you and you have a type A personality.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
