Craving Pad Thai

Recommended Posts

I am dying for some Pad Thai from my favorite Asian restaurant. They make the most awesome Shrimp Pad Thai. It doesn't help that I watched "Throwdown with Bobby Flay" and the dish was Pad Thai. That was nothing but food porn. I was thinking of trying to find a recipe and subbing in miracle noodles for the rice noodles, but Asian Food is so outside of my culinary wheelhouse. Does anyone know of a good bottled Pad Thai Sauce or a sleeve friendly recipe? (Here's looking at you, Gamergirl) All responses are welcome:)

Just have some. Eat mostly the Protein and have some noodles. You won't be able to hold much and it might not make you feel great but you will get the craving out of your system.

I think I just might. According to Myfitnesspal, 4oz is only 140 calories and it doesn't blow my fat and carb totals for the day. YAY, PAD THAI! Woot Woot!

I crave weird stuff like that now and again (general Tsao chicken for me). Seems once I order it and look at it I don't want it anymore. Especially knowing what is in it. Plus it makes me feel terrible even after a couple bites.

You know, phad Thai used to be one of my favorites too. That is the only dish I would order for the most part. Never got tired of it, but felt bad that here I was eating 1 thing from a menu of 100s of different choices (figuratively speaking). After surgery, I never had phad Thai again. I probably could have, but did not want that interfering with my weight loss nor did I want food to control me anymore. Long story short, I decided to start ordering things off the Thai menu I was always a wimp about before. Now I can eat at Thai all the time and know that there are many different lower calorie options that are not noodle based. So go ahead and try different options from the menu. You might find something you never knew you had a taste for. :)

Occasionally I will order Thai for the family. I usually ask for double the Protein and when I am serving myself measure very carefully. The sodium may hit you, would be my only warning.

That said, I can usually hit the craving with some chicken in any curry sauce, skipping the rice. But if nothing else will do, have a little, track it scrupulously, and don't go crazy. Unless you're one of those people who can't stop once you start. :-)

I will carefully measure 4oz, heavy on the shrimp and veggies. It may last me 3 days. But that's okay, I never get tired of it and I have already tracked it in MFP.

Okay! So I think I'm going to chicken out on the pad Thai. I work tonight and was really wanting something to take to work. I'm going to try to make it myself another day with miracle noodles. So for tonight, I'll probably get a burrito bowl from Chipotle. Just meat, cheese, and veggies. :( Sigh!

Recently, I have been mixing up chicken slices from costco with a green verde sauce, but also like mixing up chicken slices with different Indian and Thai sauces. Super easy for a non cook like me to prepare in minutes, yet really tasty for lunch or a snack. Mix, nuke in microwave, done. :)

I love pad Thai. With tofu is the best! Yummm!!! I can only eat it only I. Moderation though.

Restaurant phad thai is often made with a lot of oil because the noodles are very sticky. I'd try making it at home instead. Checkout the Asian section of your local grocery store for a seasoning mix, or hit any Asian market in your area. It's not tough to make at all, but if you don't have the ingredients on hand to make from scratch it can get pricey. Oh, and if you're making at home try marinating the shrimp for 20 mins or so in some of the seasoning sauce, it will add flavor.

So I just marinated some pork because this thread got me going on Thai:

Sliced pork

Sweet soy sauce

While grain mustard

Chili garlic sauce

Ginger

Cilantro

Basil

Mint

Green onion

Red cabbage

Red chili flakes

Marinate min 30mins. Stir fry high heat. Will be spicy.

(You can add a tablespoon of Peanut Butter and some coconut milk while cooking if you really want that flavor)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
