Another stall...ugh

Recommended Posts

This is so frustrating. I had surgery on nov 18 so Im almost 2 months out from surgery. I'm eating way better than I ever have. I average about 70 grams of Protein a day and between 700-900 calories a day. I can't seem to lose any weight though. I lost 20 pounds in the 2 months before surgery. I lost 10 pounds the 1st week of surgery then nothing for weeks. I'm not sure how long my stall lasted because I didn't weigh for a long time but it was at least 3 weeks long. I finally weighed because my clothes fit better and I lost an inch. I lost 10 pounds. So now 2 weeks later I decided to stand on the scale and I lost nothing! I guess this is how this is going to go. Lose a little bit then stall for 2 weeks then repeat over and over again. I don't eat junk. I focus on Protein. I track everything I eat on myfitnesspal.com my screen name is "ucjes" if you would like to go check out my food diary and see what I'm eating. Any pointers would be appreciated. I've also been walking about 3 days a week. The only thing I can think of that I'm doing right is I"m not getting enough Water in. Would that just completely stall me out though? I'm not even eating 1000 calories a day! This is ridiculous! I'm not weighing for another 2 weeks. By the way inches aren't moving either. This is why I threw the scale up in the closet. It causes me too much anxiety.

Are drinking enough Water? I find if I'm not drinking enough water it shows on the scale. Have you find something fun to do for exercise..sometimes mixing up your exercise routine helps... You will get there. Stay positive :)

Have patience and keep at it. You say you may not be getting all of your Water in so focus on that. You ARE losing weight so that is something to be proud of. Trust me the weight will come off. For some it is just faster than others.

I'm right there with you - I was sleeved a few days before you...11/14.

I have been losing ssssooo slowly - it's frustrating! I think I'm in another stall right now - I had one for 10 days between weeks 3 and 4.

I'm trying to be positive and keep working to the plan. It's hard to not compare what you're results are to others, I do and I know I shouldn't. I want the weight to come off faster!!!!

Hang in there - we're in this together!

Drink Water...

Drink water...

Drink water...

This cannot be stressed enough. Getting fluids is just as important as getting Protein, getting exercise, etc. Not getting enough Water can definitely cause you to not lose weight. Being even slightly dehydrated can cause imbalances in your body that can inhibit weight loss. I'm not saying that is what your problem is, but the fact that you know you aren't getting enough water is a good start. Take care of the problems you know about and rule it out as an issue.

For me, drinking water was just about the ONLY thing I did correctly from a nutrition standpoint all my life. I would almost always get 2 liters of water in every single day. I loved drinking water. When i wouldn't get in enough water, I would absolutely feel it in various ways. I am 4 weeks out and I have just been able to get in 55-60 ounces of water for the past few days and I feel SO much better than when i was only getting 30-35 for the past few weeks. I was also stalled, but since I started getting in the fluids, the scale has moved again.

How important is water? Go without it for a few days and you die.

Stalls suck. Period. But if you keep working the plan it will come off. Up your Water.

Ucjes, I posted a friend request on myfitnesspal so that I can look at your activity. I just came from my first post-op follow-up at 3 1/2 weeks. My nutritionist advised me to cut the shakes back from 3 a day, to one a day after strength training or exercise. She also told me to start getting most of my Protein from actual food and that too much whey Protein can slow down weight loss.

On a different note, I got permission to try out the Phase IV regular food part of the diet, so we stopped by WENDY'S for lunch and I got chili with cheese and ate 1/3 cup and it stayed down and did not fight back. OH YEAH!!!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
