I tried zumba!

Recommended Posts

Went to my first zumba class today and I loved it! The only thing is I am not graceful and I don't pick up dance steps easily, though I do have a good sense of rhythm. How many classes until you knew most of the moves? The instructor doesn't really stop to show us the moves because most people are regulars. I just tried to keep up and at least keep moving.

Any tips? I am going to look at some YouTube videos but anything else I can do? I get two more classes at the intro rate of 3 for 15 but I have to use them by Jan 20 so I will get a little more practice.

I would never in a million years have tried this before losing weight with the sleeve. I had a grin on my face the whole time and was so proud of myself!

Thanks! I don't think of myself as the sexy slinky type, but the moves remind me of when I was a kid and used to dance to the radio. I think this kind of movement will help me get over myself a little and have fun. It's "safe" because everyone is looking forward and I don't feel like I stand out. It for sure helps that I'm not the biggest one in the room! Though now that I have gone, I'd say I would have been able to do most of it even before losing the weight and I regret that I let my weight hold me back from doing so many fun things.

Hi mistysj!

I agree with lipstick 3-5 classes if you go a couple times a week so your body can pick it up. Learn the feet first and let your body get that then add the arms. Have fun, let go and laugh when you go the wrong way :)

Ok I did it again! A little easier today but I still don't know if it is for me. I feel like I could be working a lot harder but the moves mix me up! I will go and have the third class I pay for but then I might try BodyPump which my friend tells me I don't need to be coordinated for!

The better you get at it, the harder you work. Once your feet figure out the basic moves, you can add in your arms, the hip swivels and everything else. If you truly enjoy it, you just suck at it, keep going. The enjoyments grows and the suckiness lessens, I promise.

I just started Zumba, too! I have gone to 3 so far. I feel like I get most of the steps, until instructor goes crazy! It reminds me of the old "step aerobics"

, many of the same basic steps.

Like you, I like that I am not the biggest in the class, but sadly, I might be the oldest :(

Oh my gosh I love Zumba, best exercise ever. Don't worry about the steps, you will learn to listen to the beat of the music and what steps go with them. The better you get the more you LOVE it I am 11 days out of surgery and I can't wait to get back to Zumba. By your 4th or 5th class you will have learned so much and remember nobody looks at you, they are looking at the instructor.

I LOVE Zumba! I was going a couple times a week, but had to stop due to severe joint pain. Once I have my surgery and lose some of the weight, this will be my go to exercise for fun! I can't wait!

I know I'm late but Zumba is my favorite cardio exercise. I was addicted after first having the gastric bypass. LOL. I go to several instructors and they're all different. Some show you moves more than others, then some are like you better keep coming and watch. If you keep going to the same classes you will eventually be very fluent in your movements. Glad you liked. :-)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
