Hello...new here...surgery scheduled for 4/3

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I'm Pat and I got the insurance acceptance call today from Dr. Abkin's office. I live in Western, NJ and am 34 years old.

Basically, I come from a fat family. My mother had GB two years ago and has done really well with it. My wife struggles with her weight, and we don't want this life for our three daughters.

My girls are ages 3, 1 and 1 and they keep us busy, but I wish I had more energy to run around with them. I'm doing this surgery for them and for myself and for my wife.

Nerves are starting to get me after getting my insurance acceptance. I'm scared of not getting off of the table and leaving my family...This is normal, right?

I've been lurking on this board lately and have already gained so much insight from all of you.

Pat

HI Pat,

Congrats on your insurance approval!

I know I had pre op jitters too. I kept reminding myself that all my other surgeries were successful and this one would be too. I knew I was making the right decision for long term health and this was what I needed to do.

Also it helped that my family was there praying me through.

You'll be fine and in my prayers.

Keep us updated after surgery.

Hello Pat, I am also a patient of Dr. Abkins. You are in good hands with both Abkin and Bertha. I know Bertha because he does the fills. You will be amazed how great you are going to feel. I am having so much fun with my kids now that I can keep up with them!! Good luck!

Thanks, Seppi,

I have my three hour class on Thursday... I can't imagine what can take three hours. Heck, my process from meeting the doctor for the first time, to getting all my approvals just about took three hours. What should I expect? Do you have any questions that you would make sure you ask if you were going through this, knowing what you know now? Did that make sense? Oh well, It's 11:41pm, If that last line didn't make sense, I blame it on the time.

Pat

Sorry didn't see this sooner. My class was about 2 hours, they went over all the forms and gave us a booklet that told us what we could eat and when. I found it helpful, I had done lots of research so i didn't have lots of questions. Others had a lot. It was interesting if nothing else. Good luck on your day!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
