So I had to call the surgeon twice today due to Pain. It felt like something squeezing from my throat to my stomach. Had sleeve on Dec. 9th. He said was esophageal spasms. So I am back to liquids! Couldn't finish 4 oz's of Soup for dinner! Anyone else have this problem? What can you do?

When was your surgery? I had this sort of issue for 3 1/2 months after surgery. It got a little better each week and eventually went away. My doctor tested for stricture, but I did not have one.

To deal with it I did the following:

  • tiny bites
  • take a long time to finish a meal, even longer than normal for VSG
  • Soft foods for 4 months. Even now at 5 months I prefer softer foods. Just recently able to eat salads and vegs well.
  • Reglan helped - doctor prescribed it. I took it on occasion and it worked well when I needed it to.
  • Stayed away from mint, chocolate, coffee, spicy stuff and other triggers as they made the problem worse. Trigger foods are fine now. You can google for Esophageal spasm trigger foods.

Good luck.

I am 5 weeks out and just started soft foods the other week but since Monday I have been having this problem so going back to purred and liquids for awhile to see if they will stop.

Thanks for the info

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
