Post-Op January 2014 Losers Club!

I had rny on January 15. I still have a g tube. Tonight I am in a lot of pain in my belly in the middle right below my bra. Last time this happened I got put back in the hospital with mild pancreatitis. I hope it's not that. I just hope I feel better by tomorrow or I will probably have to go to the er and find out what's going on.

How much longer before you get your gtube out! I get mine out on Tuesday. I was suppose to get it out last week but my Dr wanted to make sure I was getting all my Protein in without using it. He said he didn't want to take it out and I end up in the hospital.

I hope you feel better.

After a 10-day plateau, I'm finally starting to lose again. I'm cleared for solids, but I'm still really careful. I've gotten food stuck twice and the foamies once. I can eat chicken just fine - by no type of fish. However, I have been saved by shrimp. Shrimp goes down really easily, has lots of Protein, and tastes good. I also found sugar-free cocktail sauce online. Whole Beans don't work even if I chew well, but fat-free refried still work. I've found a no sugar added marina sauce, so I'm having that with spaghetti squash and a meatball tomorrow :)

I'm cleared for shrimp this upcoming week. I can't wait! : )

I've been lucky with chicken and fish. No problem with either as long as I eat between 2 - 2 1/2 ozs. I ate a 3 oz portion one night and paid for it with pain in the center of my chest for awhile. I stick to my portion size now, no matter how good it tastes. Lol

It's a feeding tube they leave in one of your incisions. It has a rubber on the end and we put like a funnel in the end of it when we use it. It's connected to your old stomach. We can crush meds and pour it in followed with Water. I poured my Protein Shakes that I couldn't stand the taste of after surgery. I also poured my liquid pain meds in it. The tube itself is a pain in the butt. But I understand the reasoning behind it. My Dr only uses them for RNY patients.

It does kinda feel like it's pulling sometimes when I stand up. I hunch over for a few seconds at first. Most Drs do not use them but I'm glad I had one. I would never had gotten my Protein in the past few weeks if I didn't have it.

I was worried about getting it out because I'm a wussy. Lol. I asked my Dr's assistant, who also had RNY if it hurt. She said its a little bit of a burning sensation that may last 20 minutes after it's pulled out and was a 3 to 4 on a pain scale. I saved 2 of my pain pills just in case lol. She told me that I'll be able to drive myself to get it done. That put my mind to ease. I know they wouldn't let me drive myself if it was bad.

How much can everyone eat. I seem to not feel any fullness or restriction almost like my stomach is the same. I can eat a yogurt and a cheese stick at one time. I can eat a piece of chicken or approx 3/4 of it. I'm wondering if that's normal.

Maybe speak to your dr. I know eventually we can eat more, but there's no way I can even get a 1/4 c of food at a time yet. I do the Protein first, but can only manage 4 -6 small bites. If I go over that I feel very uncomfortable, so I have learned to stop before I feel full. So I eat 4-5 really small meals a day. I can barely finish a scrambled egg. I struggle with the Water most. Everyone seems to have a different experience though. Let us know what they say.

Hope everyone is doing well on this nice Sunday. Yesterday I got to experience the dreaded "dumping." We were at an all day basketball tournament for my son so I packed some yogurt and cooked potato and my Protein Powder for a shake. I was out of skim milk for the shake so my husband stopped at the gas station and could only find 2%. I have been tolerating everything just fine so I decided to try that while were on a break. Bad mistake. Very shortly after I finished drinking started getting dizzy and nauseated. I was too dizzy to get up for a few minutes but made a straight line to the bathroom when I got myself together. I went in a stall and just sat holding on to the handicapped rails. I needed to throw up but couldn't(especially since it was a very busy place) I thought I was going to have to lay on the floor. I sat for about 15 minutes and finally dry heaved. Once I did that, the dizziness finally eased up and I was able to make my way out of the bathroom. Fifteen minutes later I was back again. My belly was cramping. Finally after all that I was back to my self. Hopefully won't have to go through that again it was a terrible feeling.

Oh no lifeinprogress. So sorry you experienced that. It's hard when life is hectic like that. Sounds like you were doing the best you could under the circumstances. Thank you for sharing your story and I hope you never experience that again.

I thought it seemed a bit strange. Thank you for your feedback.

Hi all! Not much to say, I'm a bit emo, that I posted in the other thread and was pretty much ignored. Tried to be encouraging but guess it was unwanted. It's difficult not to sound dramatic when trying to express a hurt, I'm not searching for sympathy, just wanted to explain my reason for going on my merry way as far as participating.

I'm not good at these forum things so I will just say best of luck to you all on your journeys.

I know. It can be discouraging not to get responses. I just now saw this. My search term pulled up this thread. I was so notional after surgery. Doc said to expect it because as fat is burned it releases hormones that have been stored there. I hope you are doing better since you posted this. All Best!

Hello everyone. I have also tried to get into conversation in other threads and thought it was just me but only one person talked to me. Once. Lol. I had my band removed and the bypass done 12/31/13. How's that for a New Years celebration. Lol. My Clear Liquids was for 3 days then moved to full liquids until the 15 th day after surgery. It's strange how different dr's have somewhat different diets. But I feel we all have the same destination just the journey may vary. Good luck everyone.

I was sleeved on 1-15-14, so we are at about the same place. I hope you are doing well. I feel good. But that losing your hunger thing has not stuck with me. First couple weeks. Now I feel hungry. But, am being careful. Best to you!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
