Well I'm so glad to find these threads!

I was banded the 1st time 8 years ago. When I went for my very 1st fill a leak was discovered in the port and the band itself. So everything had to be replace which was so hard emotionally to go through. I was never able to have even 1cc in my band. I did wonderful with the weight loss though. I even got to 4 pounds from my minds goal.

Then I started getting sick constantly. So the unfills began. To make a long story short I gained all but 20 pounds back. I get sick sometimes on liquids and I'm tired of getting stuck!

So tomorrow I am getting the band removed and going to the sleeve! I'm excited! Looking forward to my new adventure.

I'm glad that you are getting the sleeve surgey. It was the best decision that I did for myself. I was 265 and on December 17, 2012 I got the sleeve survey. I weight 188lbs currently and probably could have lost more weight but right after my survey I went back to school to finalize my Master degree. I graduated on Dec 2013. During my journey, I was balancing with my new way of eating, taking care of my family, working full time as HR Manager, and going to school. I was blessed by having a very supportive husband and co workers. Nobody in my family knows about the surgery. I chose to never tell anyone except my hubby and girls. My family would have never approved of it. This was my first surgery and I was very scare, but after the first two weeks I was pain free and back to work. Today I track everything I eat and always try to stay eating high Protein and low carbs. This will be my new way of always eating healthy for the rest of my life. After graduating, I have been doing exercise every day rain or shine for 30 minutes to 1 hour. My whole family is eating healthier because I refuse to cook two different meal. I don't drink sodas or eat pizza because I just don't want to gain weight. I have lost weight very slowly but now that I'm a bit of relax and plan I g my meals better I have started to lost 2-3 lbs a week. The sleeve is just a tool to help you lost weight is your food intake is 80% and exercise is 20% that will keep you on the right track. Best of luck on your surgery. I uses my fitness pal (apps) if you want to befriend me my user name is "rgriffin26"

I'm going in tomorrow too! I've had my band since June 2011. I did great the first year going from 234 to 168, then I slipped. I gained ab I went in Oct 2012 and my doctor unbuckled my band to let my stomach heal. Then he went in and repositioned it January 2013. I had gained 25lbs in that short time. I was then having problems again and found out it slipped again.I had only lost about 15lbs from January 2013 to Oct 2013. He said it's best it comes out because if he repositions it again, the chances it will slip again is high. I was 193 in January of 2013 and now I'm 185.So I decided to revise it to the sleeve. I am nervous, excited, anxious, apprehensive, worried and all those other feelings. I guess that is normal and if I didn't have those feelings I'm not human! Good Luck tomorrow! I'll be right there with you!

How's everyone doing? I spent 2 nights in the hospital . I had a lot of scar tissue from the band the scar tissue even went onto my liver.

Sipping away. Pain is not fun!

I came home on Wednesday after 2 nights in the hospital too. Feeling pretty good, pain is minimal. I do get a strange feeling when I drink my Protein shake, or have anything. It's like a stuck feeling like i had with my band. I'm thinking my sleeve is swollen a bit and will be like that until the swelling goes down. I know there's no blockage or leaks because my swallow test came back fine. Not sure if it is normal to feel this but its annoying.

It seems to be. This morning when i had some yogurt, there was a little pain/pressure. I just think its because everything is still so swollen and once the swelling go down I'll be fine. Right now Water and Clear Liquids like broth and apple juice is no problem. Just things that are thicker is giving me that feeling.

So far I haven't had any dry mouth. I just try to sip on Water all day to make sure I stay hydrated.

Maybe your bites of the yogurt are too large. Your so lucky to be able to have yogurt! I can't wait until it can.

I found a thread with a bunch of people who had surgery on the 13th like us! I think it was under support. It's nice to read how everyone is doing at the same time!

My husband brought me a drink at GNC called isogin (I think) it looks like Gatorade and has 40 grams of Protein in it. I haven't tried it yet but I will start sipping on it tomorrow. I'm looking taking care of protein and liquids at the same time!

Have a good night!

I've had diarrhea since I've had my surgery. I'm going to ask my doctor about it when I see him in February. My surgery was December 2nd

Jessica do you really think you should wait that long to ask them? That's a long time.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
