No pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

I have the band, I did the liquid diet for two weeks my sister had the sleeve (with another doctor) and she was NOT required to do it. I suggested and advised her to do it and she did NOT (she's older and thinks I'm stupid) LoL. She had no complications. I would suggest and advise you to do it anyway, it won't HURT you ;)

Low carb diets are, for the most part, high in FAT. If you were not getting adequate amounts of fats, that might have been a reason why you were "hungry" a lot. I was NEVER hungry when I was low-carbing on Atkins.

I hear of everyone talking about their pre-op diets. I know my mom was on one for like 4 weeks before her surgery but I was just told not to go crazy the week before and to not eat from midnight the night before. Is this normal!?

Every doctor is different, I had no pre-op and no has pains whatsoever. Good Luck!!!!

Really the diet is to use up the glycogen stores in the liver and make the liver lighter to reduce risk of liver tearing from some poor nurse whose having to stand on one side of you and hold the liver out of the way while the surgeon is on the other side of you doing your band. Liver lacerations are not uncommon.

That's what my doctor told me - I was on an 800 calorie a day diet (using Protein shakes) for the 2 weeks right before the surgery. He's been doing these surgeries for a long time and said that before they started promoting the liquid diets, it was common to for the liver to tear during surgery because it was so big it would get in the way.

After people go on a restrictive liquid diet, it shrinks the liver considerably and avoids a lot of risk.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
