Do you miss soda?

Recommended Posts

No I can't say that I do but if I have a craving for it which I have three times in the three yrs I've been banded, I drank half a sprite and was done. Don't miss it at all.

Not really. I started drinking Crystal Light a few years ago and loved it so much that I drank less and less soda. I am just not that into it, anymore. Right now, I am slurping a diet Minute Maid lemonade with lots of ice and a little Splenda added to it. (I like my lemonade a little sweeter.) So cold and refreshing. And yes, I am slurping it through a straw. My surgeon says straws are allowed after the first month, and since I am a straw freak, I am back to using my straws. :D There are so many lovely flat beverages that one can slurp and enjoy that I don't miss soda, at all. :D

I can't believe I'm about to say this because I had a pretty serious Diet Coke habit before the band.... BUT I LOVE Water NOW....

It took about 6 months though :)

I gave up my diet soda on Oct. 25th in preparation for being banded. I don't miss it on most days. I will admit though that, on the rare occasion that the family & I get to go out to eat together, I do miss it then. I usually just ask for a glass of ice Water to sip on until I get my food. My surgeon allows me to drink up until I begin my meal and then nothing for 45 minutes to an hour after I finish eating.

Oh boy am I gonna get gasp's from what I'm about to say.

I am 6 yrs Banded, unfilled, eating a regular menu. I am seriously addicted to pop. I can't have caffeine or artificial sweeteners, so I drink regular c/f Coke. Every day, all day, for years. I have a problem! I'm thinking about going back to my surgeons office and see if he can do test's to see if I've damaged my tummy in any way. I'm in therapy dealing with my addiction(s).My Doc's PA says my stomach is fine, but she didn't x-ray it or anything, so I don't know for sure.

Don't do what I did. Listen to these kind people, .Follow Drs orders, maybe ask "Why?" and maybe the answer will help put it into perspective.

Are you saying, because of your addictions....I'm assuming food/eating addictions....you had to have your band unfilled, and now fear you may have done some damage???

If that is the scenario, I can certainly understand it....trying to fight your band, trying to do what it was designed to prevent us from doing....in my case overeating, can definitely cause damage....

I have attempted to overeat, and the result are not pretty..usually accompanied by pain...so I learned not to try...behavior modification, no longer can, or will over eat....

I can imagine if my addictions were that severe,,,,I would perhaps ignore the pain, etc,.....

Another favorite of mine is Diet Snapple but man that stuff is expensive. Can get it on sale from time to time. Also I tried diet Brisk lemonade this past weekend. That was pretty good and it's not carbonated either.

Thanks for the welcomed advice!

  1. I'm trying to think of alternatives to pop.
  2. Decaf Iced Tea, FULL of sugar!
  3. Iced coffee, my other obsession is high in calories (I need sugar in my IC) Also, I use 1/2 & 1/2, a little high in fat.
  4. I don't like lemonade, well, I do, but it's so strong I get heartburn. And high in sugar and cost.
  5. But I might be able to learn to like lemon Water. Or better, lime Water.< /li>
  6. Can't have Crystal Light, (sweetener) my GI says it's bad for me, and I agree.
  7. I drink black coffee, like a dude, sometimes. But I prefer cold with all the bells and whistles.
  8. Herbal tea is good at home, but not on the run.
  9. Milk is great, but again, not on the go.

Money and Storage is almost nil for me, so I can't afford pricey stuff like Snapple, Lipton Green Tea, etc

So this leaves me with plain old water. YUCK! But I'll figure something out, I'm serious about this journey, so compromise is in order.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

I looooove Diet Snapple. But it is so expensive. I only treat myself when it is on sale or when I am feeling especially indulgent and am willing to pony up full price. I think it is time to go rob a bank so I can feed my Diet Snapple need. Anyone want to be my getaway driver? I'll share. :D

I hated Water. Refused to drink it at first. But I've been drinking it for a little over a year (started out to save me money when I ate out) now I actually don't mind it. Think even starting to like it some.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
