Surgery for hernia

Recommended Posts

Did anyone have a hernia surgery when they had their lap belt put on? Will it take longer to heal, is there more discomfort, and how did they fix the hernia? Thanks for the answers!

My doc said that most people who have WLS, HAVE a hernia, and if it is big enough he will fix it during the surgery.. said it is usually one-two stitches and adds 5 minutes to the length of the operation.

I had a hernia which they fixed. Doc said it might be a little more sore and may take a tiny bit longer to feel better.

Having said that, I was banded Monday the 12th and am currently at work doing quite fine. I'm a little sore, walking a little carefully and resting while at home but otherwise good.

I had an enormous hiatal hernia repaired during my lap banding surgery. The surgery took 3 hours in total instead of the usual 45 minutes. I experienced problems breathing deeply for the first two weeks but I'd recovered completely after about 4 weeks. I'm not allowed to exercise at all until I'm two months post-op because it was so large and I risk tearing the stitches that were placed to close the hole in my diaphragm.

As for the pain; I did require morphine for the first night after surgery and I was very uncomfortable for about 10 days.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the answers. I also had problems breathing deeply for the first couple of days and coughed up gunk. I thought that was my lungs from the surgry but maybe it was from the hernia?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
