I don't know why or how I didn't catch this sooner but when I left my pre surgery screening they sent me home with a sheet of instructions and on there it says to stop OTC meds (such as advil, motrin etc... ) 5 days prior to surgery, which I did remember and made sure I didn't take any meds. But tonight I went and re-read the instructions to make sure I didn't forget anything I had to do since my surgery is coming up and on there I noticed that it also said that you must stop taking Vitamins 5 days prior to surgery as well. I didn't catch that the first time I looked over my instructions and I have been taking my Multivitamin, as well as Biotin and b-12. Now I don't know if this makes a difference or not but none of my vitamins are the kind you have to swallow, they are either in liquid form or the kind that melt under your tongue.

Is this going to prevent me from getting the surgery? Why do they ask you stop taking vitamins 5 days before surgery? My surgery date is December 18th and now I'm worried.

I would call your surgeons office tomorrow and tell them. Hopefully it will be ok. Good luck with your surgery!

I just did an internet search on this because now I'm worried sick. I found out the reason they want you to stop multi Vitamins 5 days prior is because many Multi Vitamins contain Vitamin E and that can interact with clotting. However I read that the amount of Vitamin E would have to exceed 400 IU before it would cause a problem. I hope that's true. My multi vitamin does contain vitamin E but the amount was 60 IU and I have only been taking 2/3 the daily dosage.

I would call and check. I was instructed to take my chewable multi-vitamn for my 1 week pre-op diet and just told not to take it one day before. I guess everyone is different, but call and set your mind at ease!

I agree with the above - call the doctor and let them know. They are the professionals that will make the decision on best course of action.

Always the best idea to call your team and find out what they feel...If it is that they postpone it...which I doubt they will..It will not be cancelled ..It will still happen and if so then it gives yo more time to prepare yourself and work on your addiction to food....It will all be okay....

The reason is to prevent drug interactions between your supplements and drugs administered during surgery. For previous, unrelated surgeries, I was instructed to stop my multivitamin 2 weeks before, however, I was not told to stop my multivitamin for the sleeve. I took my multivitamin up until the day before surgery. If you have been instructed to stop it but were a little late in stopping it, just call your surgeon's office and let them know. Most likely it won't be an issue because the last Vitamin you took will probably be out of your system by the 18th.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
