Am 6 days post op in those days I have only been able to eat Clear liquids, I am suppose to be do Protein Shakes but every time I try to drink one I can only get a little bit in and then I start throwing up not just a little I throw up until my back and stomach hurt. On Saturday I went to sleep to try to combat the nausea and then threw up twice in my sleep. I sat up and slept for the remainder of the night that night. I stop trying with the Protein that day. I called the nurse and they had me stop the protein and go back to clear liquid, then had me try again today. I got 2 oz down then became increasingly nauseous until I threw up over and over for about 45 minutes.

I called the nurse line again to ask about the throwing up and discuss some pain I am having... Well I am now sitting in the ER they were concerned about my lung where I am having pain and want ex-ray done they are also concerned about dehydration.

I am frustrated, defeated, hungry, tired, and really regretting doing this. I am not really sure why I am posting.. Support? Sympathy? IDK to keep from going insane. Has anyone had a similar experience?

It will get better. This is part of the journey. I had my surgery on June 26th of this year and then spent the next 10+ weeks vomiting and wondering what the heck I had done. I had to have two endoscopes with dilation, before my stomach settled down, but now almost 6 months later I am doing much better. Mind you at the time, I felt the same way you did, and people like Laura V, encouraged me and supported me during those scary and depressing days. I didn't have pain, so I am glad you followed up with your doctor's office and hit the ER(better safe....). It will get better. You are still healing and adjusting to the wonderful world of sleeve life! Keep posting. I found that during that time, having a support system of people who had experienced this journey, helped to anchor me. Keep us posted and good luck.

Thanks everyone. I am still waiting the hospital I am at doesn't do bariatrics I had to travel 4 hours away to a hospital my insurance covers for surgery. So I was getting my vitals done and they were drawing blood and one of the guys goes yeah I bet it's your gallbladder how we test that is stick our hand under your rib cage and grab the lower part of your rib feeling for the diaphragm and we should be able to feel the gallbladder. I snapped at him "the h3!! you are! I am six days post op you just start grabbing things that are potentially stitched I am going to lose it." I have a bunch of extra stitching because my surgeon also repaired a hiatal hernia.

Please Lord direct these people on how to help me!

I am in New Mexico had my surgery in El Paso. We have a bariatric center locally but it is out of my network and my insurance will not cover any thing done with them at all.

It seems to me that I've read about folks discovering they were allergic to the whey (I think?) that is in many of the common Protein shakes and powders. I don't remember the exact details, but I'm pretty sure it involved lots of mysterious vomiting until somebody thought to check for a whey allergy. There are Protein powders from egg & pea & other non-whey sources, so I think just making that switch took care of the problem. Maybe the allergy angle is something for you to look at?

You are in the right place. Whoever said they were going to "grab" your gall bladder doesn't have a great bedside manner! What they will do is press lightly over the right side of your stomach to feel if your gall bladder is enlarged. It may be slightly tender, but not painful. However, my guess is that you are simply healing. I vomited 3 days straight (not 6, I know). I couldn't even keep Water down. I still vomit every couple of days if I overeat, or try to eat a vegetable! In the first few days, vomiting was terrifying, but now it's kinda routine!

I hope you feel better soon. I'm sure you will. I wondered what the hell I'd done too, but I'm cool now.

I was wondering about the whey allergy possibility also but I tolerated it just fine for my 2 week post op. I was thinking also possible lactose intolerance since I am suppose to mix it with skin milk but I have been tolerating small amounts of yogurt just fine. It's weird the Protein I am suppose to be using is called Beneprotein. It comes in a can similar to baby formula. It mixes smooth with out clumps but-------- TMI warning---- when I throw up it comes up in curds yuck!----

They decided to do a CT . The tech came in to try and get me to drink 3 white foam cups worth of contrast in 1 1/2 hours I looked at her like she was insane when she tried to mix it with sprite and have me drink it through a straw. I argued with her round and round for like 10 minutes she kept saying just drink as much as you can pushing the fizzing drink at me and I kept telling her I was going to rupture my staple line and asking her if she knew what a gastric sleeve was. I told her I hadn't taken in that much liquid at one time in over a week. I told her it takes me 20 minutes to drink one medicine cup full of Water and she wants me to drink this bubbly concoction! Uhhhh nope! Finally exasperated she walked out of the room and the doc had heard out exchange and she ordered IV contrast and let me pass on the full foam cup shooters.

So now I am waiting on results hooked up to a IV bag of fluids I begged for and finally got. Fingers crossed the results come in after I empty the bag!

Coming from an ER nurse, unfortunately there are more incompetent and arrogant employees in the hospital than I would like to admit. Hopefully your CT comes back negative, your IV fluids give you a little boost and you can go home. Then you can work with your Dr to see if this is just an intolerance to milk or whey and go from there to find a Protein you can tolerate. This will get better, you will get better. 6 months from now you'll look back and see how much better you feel. Good luck and best wishes!

Everythinf inside you/me is swollen and tender from surgery....maybe its the warmth but it feels (and tastes) good...AND since I was si hungry with no energy...

.the cereal made me feel like a new woman

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
